I was just calculating my AMCAS GPA when I read the official AMCAS handbook. And it just confused the hell out of me. How they calculate grades at my school;
A = 4.0
B+ = 3.5
B = 3.0
C+ = 2.5
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0

So my question is what does AMCAS do with schools that base their grades using this system ? AMCAS converts a B+ (3.5) to a 3.3, or did I misunderstand what they were saying?
I was using the AMCAS GPA spreadsheet, and I was just wondering are the values correct for it ?

(Sorry in advance if this questions been answered 100 times all ready)

B+ converts to 3.5

Yes I believe they will change it to a 3.3 when calculating your GPA.

B+ converts to 3.5

This. Check out the PDF sector9 linked to. Your school's grading system falls under the "ABCD/F with halfstep grades" scheme. A B+ converts to an AB with a 3.5 assigned value.

All grades will be changed to AMCAS's grading scheme no matter what your transcripts have. Your AMCAS GPA is what the medical schools see.

Thank you! I was freaking out before thinking all my 3.5 grades (B+) were going to be converted to 3.33. Because my schools system matched the first one they had except my school doesn't give out minus grades. I just couldnt believe that was going to happen. Thanks for clearing that up.

Sorry if the answer to this is already posted somewhere, but I looked and couldn't find it.

So I graduated last spring (2011) from my UG program and have decided to take an English course this year (2011/2012) through the school I graduated from. Since I am only taking this course to meet prereq requirements, will it be factored into my AMCAS GPA? This is the only course I am taking this year.

Yes, it will be factored in if it is listed on your primary.

Yes it will count. It will be in your postbacc GPA which is included in your cGPA

It's interesting that when applying from Canada, US med schools do it as:

an 80% from many schools = a 4.0 , with the worst case being 85% = 4.0.

But you guys have it way differently in the US ? Due to easier grading.
