Anyone using a mac have trouble with the amcas? I run the newest version of firefox already, yet I go to the login and it says my browser is unsupported. So, I humor them and re-download/install it. Still unsupported evidently. Safari doesn't work with it either. Evidently the AMCAS is a bit behind the times...they still recommend internet explorer for max osx, which was removed from microsoft's download site in 2006 and hasn't had a true update for A LOT longer than that.

Any osx users have this issue? I also have vista, xp and linux...but that involves me actually buying a huge cat 5 cable that I rather not deal with.

Download a copy of Netscape for Mac, and that works perfectly fine. That is what I did.

I doubt it, but in case you were looking for links for opera or the (albeit old) mac internet explorer, i found a link with most of them together.

Get the User Agent Switcher plugin for firefox. You can use that to make the website think that firefox is IE. Works perfectly for me.

Yeah, if you turn on the debugger in Safari you can be whatever browser you want (or so they think) and it works fine then. Pretty stupid though to not support any of the browsers that people actually use...especially when it's not even for a valid reason.

Yeah, I love how I had to download an entirely separate browser JUST for AMCAS. Because having Opera, Firefox, and Safari wasn't enough browsers for me.

And why on earth do they even list Internet Exploder? No one with a Mac and a grain of sense uses IE. (don't hurt me if you do...)

Open the terminal window
Type in the following (or just cut and paste):
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1

Then reopen Safari and go to Develop>User Agent> and select the browser of your choice.

i downloaded netscape and everything worked well. i didn't understand what people were talking about with debugging safari so i didn't bother, but netscape was easy enough.

Most of the time when they say you HAVE to use a certain browser, there's just a stupid check line in the coding that checks the browser, in reality, it doesn't matter. If you turn on debugging in Safari, you can set it to be like whatever browser you want and it lets you get around stupid website "required browsers".

why don't you try running windows on your mac? I would think this would solve the problem..

First of all: YUCK! Secondly, the Windows OS for macs is expensive. Netscape or debugging Safari is easier and cheaper

I used netscape for the 2008 cycle and didn't have any problems.

hadn't used it in years and only used it for my AMCAS app but I downloaded the old netscape (Me thinks from versiontracker.com). It wasn't bad and made it easy since I made the login page my homepage for the browser.
