This is specifically for any of you who are veterans and are applying/have applied via AMCAS.

I started filling out the application and ran into a road block when starting to enter my military experience. AMCAS requires a contact name and a phone number or email for each "experience." I ETS'd 13 years ago. I don't know if anyone who was in my chain command is still alive, let alone where they are. My pre-med advisor suggested I omit anything older than five years. Ummmm....No, I will not be omitting military experience from my application.

Anyhow, I really want to put "Uncle Sam" as my contact and 1-800-550-ARMY as the contact phone number, but I'm guessing sarcasm won't help me get into med school.

So, if you ran into this problem, how did you solve it? Is there some generic contact that I can put in here? I really don't want to make something up.

Thanks in advance.

I agree with the posts above. This has also been an issue when filling out contact information for past employee history 😛

Thanks everyone. I figured the AARTS transcript would be proof enough for them and they wouldn't have to call anyone. I'll just put something in there and move on.

Hey guys,

I am just wondering if any of you veterans took CLEP's while you were in? My school transcript doens't state what CLEP's I took; just that it say CLEP Credits: 30. My SMART transripts states all the CLEPS and DSST's that I took, it is just that the school doesn't state my CLEP credits on the official transcripts. I really don't want to take the humanities and English classes (due to financial reasons) but I will if I have to. I will most likely be taking the 2015 MCAT since I am just now starting on my post bacc. Has anyone else been in this situation or will I have to bite the bullet and take the classes?

I can't speak to CLEP, or your undergrad/post bac institution--but you will submit your SMART transcripts to AMCAS (you will submit all transcripts that have college credit on them). So medical schools will see what classes it was for. It is important however to make sure medical schools accept those CLEP credits, too. I know some do not take CLEP or AP high school courses.

I was not as far out from the military and with Facebook I was still able to contact someone who served with me in each duty station. So I contacted someone from each duty station and told them what I was doing and asked if I could use them as the contact. I didn't worry about if they were directly over me or not. Also...

Not trying to hijack this thread, just trying to get my thread to the right audience. I'm running into a problem using my VA Healthcare in lieu of purchasing required health insurance. If anyone has any experience with this please contribute in my thread.
