For the honors/awards/recognitions, is there a need to put a description? Let's say you are Phi Beta Kappa, Golden Key, Deans Honors List.

it's a good idea to mention what it took to earn the award.

for instance if you got phi beta junior year (which is more prestigious) you should mention it.

are people putting Golden Key as one of their 15? I put Phi Beta Kappa, but wasn't sure if Golden Key is prestigious or not. Anyone? Is it worth taking up one of those 15 spots?

It's my opinion that neither of the three mentioned awards are worth mentioning at all. I qualified Phi Beta, but did not want to spend the money to be a member. Any how many premed students don't make the Dean's List for most semesters?

A scholarship, grant, publication, or special award that only a few (or just one) people got are the only types of awards that I would put. I would rather have fewer post-secondary events that stand out, rather than fill all 15 with events that most premeds have too.

I agree except for PBK. I think that's prestigious enough to merit a spot if you have some open.

smid-
i would put everything you've got! it's your application...make it the best you can!

That's what I thought. I'm debating about PBK. At my school it's the top 10%, but I feel like grades say the same thing.

Anyway, I didn't pay to join, just was "elected". I agree, it's stupid to have to pay to join an honor society. I mean HELLO, isn't the whole point that it's an honor to have you as a member?

hey,
i've got a question. suppose you will be starting to work somewhere in a couple of weeks and you've already been hired for the position...is it alright to put that down on amcas?

smid,
i would definitely put PBK and just say you were elected, as that is an honor in itself. I know your grades already indicated stuff like, but put it down anyway! you don't want to lose out on something if other people are putting it, do you?

Speaking of PBK...
Is there anyway of showing that you had the opportunity to join? I was elected but didn't want to pay the money...like most of you it sounds like....are we allowed to put "elected to PBK"? Or can you not be associated with it at all unless you pay the fees?
