Hi,

I'm applying for 2016 class. I graduated this semester with no biochem in my coursework. Some of the schools I want to apply to requires biochem. So here are my questions:
1. Can I list it as a future course even though I graduated?
2. My campus offers it this Fall but I don't want to take it if I can't get interviews for those schools that require it, since it would be a waste of money. So I plan to list it as a class in next Spring. Does this work?
3. My campus has never offered biochem before. Chances are that they won't offer it in Spring (or they will, I don't know). So how can I specify the school for the course? Can I put one school then probably take the course at another university in the Spring?

Thanks.

From what I understand, you must complete all pre-reqs before matriculation. This means you would be able to take biochem during spring or summer before matriculation if you get accepted to a school that requires it. Also, you can take it at any school that offers the course; it doesn't have to be your school.

I'm not sure about listing it (or how to list it) as future coursework, or not, though. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

I already took 2 O Chem classes for which I got As. I'm just not sure of how I can list biochem as a future course when I'm not sure where I would take it.
Thank you for the input. I almost got rid of the schools on my list that require biochem lol.

I don't think it matters where you list it, more that you actually get it done. Just pick a semester and put it down.

I didn't list it and still got an interview at a school that required it. Had I been accepted, I would have to have taken it prior to matriculation.
As @gonnif said, it shouldn't affect admissions, so don't feel you need to list it.

(Try to avoid ending up in my situation though. I signed up for a spring class at a CC and was rejected by the school that required it one day after the deadline to drop the class with a tuition refund.)

1) Prerequisites are not checked or required by AMCAS; they are set by each individual school and will differ across those schools
2) Prerequisites are not typically checked for fulfillment during the admissions process but rather during the pre-matriculation phase after you have taken up an offer of acceptance.
3) Schools want them completed prior to matriculation which can mean up thru the summer before starting medical school. However, I am noticing that some are now listing June prior or even January prior so you need to check each campus.
4) If you dont have a requirement filled you may be able to get a waiver but that depends on each campus. Some are strict, some less so.
5) I would suggest that if you cant get Biochem, get at least 2nd semester OChem at your school, and strongly consider Biochem at another campus or even online. That way you have more ammunition if you need to ask for a waiver.

Since I have already graduated, do you assign pre-requisite credits on the secondary? Or do admissions automatically do it before secondary invite?

I only ask because my school has a bizarre pre-requisite track for medical school.
