I was planning on sending my primary AMCAS application today. However, when I printed out my personal statement essay, AMCAS did not recognize my identations for my paragraphs. When I edit my essay all the paragraphs are there, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any advice?

you cant indent, but you can make spaces between paragraphs

Exmike,

I have put spaces between my paragraphs, but it continues to print out as one long pararaph.

you put spaces or hard returns?

it should recognize a hard return as a line break and then leave an open line between each paragraph.

if this still doesn't work, cut and paste the text into notepad (something without any formatting) and then manually add in the hard return that way, the cut and paste the essay back into the amcas form.

I actually had the same problem and called the AMCAS helpline about it. They said that the "print application" button will show the formatting wrong, but Medical Schools will see the way it is layed out when you inputted it in the Personal Comments section. I hope they were telling the truth...

Really? Well, I got fixed it. I did what zinjanthropus said by placing it in notepad then pasting it into AMCAS, and that did. Each paragraph on the AMCAS editor is separated by like 6 or more lines. However, when I print it out they are only separated by one line. I keep running into problems becuase now my application is on hold because they require "supporting docs", when I have sent them my transcripts over a month ago. Really wish they would have notified me about this sooner. Oh well

At least thats what they said. I originally had it the way you described it (i.e. 6 lines between the paragraphs) and the AMCAS help lady said she could see all 6 lines. Then when I just put one line and an indentation she (even though it looked like one continuous paragraph in the printed version) the lady said she could see the line and indent. I hope she wasn't lying to me to get me off the phone.
