Hi all! I am becoming swiftly confused as to how to address academic boo-boos in the personal statement!

It seems that explaining things may not be the best course of action; yet there is a prompt in the personal application that states:
In addition, you may wish to include information such as:
*Special hardships, challenges or obstacles that may have influenced your educational pursuits
*Commentary on significant fluctuations in your academic record which are not explained elsewhere in your application
Sooo, do I address the issue, or just omit it?
