AMCAS Repeated Course Calculation

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1. What is the grading system used at your institution?

Is it A, B+, B, C+, C, D, and F. Or is it like A+, A, B+, B and so forth? AMCAS calculates this differently first of all in terms of numerical value.

2. They average both credits together as a C for 4 credits. Why would they pile on credits for taking one course repeatedly that would bear more weight? In my opinion that would be stupid. Some student could retake Biology six times to make it weigh more than their other courses. It makes absolutely no logical sense in my mind at least.

The second poster is incorrect. They are calculated using your second option, A for 4 credits and F for 4 credits(total of 8 credits).

On page 15 of the link provided above, it states "AMCAS counts all attempts of a repeated course, even if your school does not"

It also states that "Grades and credit hours for all failed courses will be included in the AMCAS GPA, even if they are not included in the GPA calculations of the transcript-issuing institution"

For DO schools it is different, they only take the top grade for the class you took. For their application you would have an A for 4 credits.

At my institute, you are not allowed to register for any class that you already have a C or higher in. If you tried during registration is would simply not register.

Plus, any ADCOM that looked at a transcript and saw six Biology 1 classes would clearly see that the person was trying to boost their GPA

So what if you took physics 1 calc then took physics 1 non calc. Would these be considered the same class?

Edit: forgot to mention that they're weighed differently in credits. Physics 1 calc is 5 while phsyics 1 non calc is 4.
