Hey Guys,

So I sent my AMCAS in on July 6, 2013, but it still has not been processed. My school's advising committee told me it should be done sometime next week. I am getting a little bit nervous that too many people had applied in June and that my submission date, which I was told was on the earlier side at the time, is now too late. AAMC did tell me when I called they have received a record number of applicants. Do you guys think my application date is going to hurt my chances?

Thanks

Relax. You're probably not early, but neither are you late.

All my transcripts were marked as received, yes. Thank you for moving it @winged scapula.

Relax. Focus on what you can control. Start writing the secondaries which are sent to everyone. Distract yourself otherwise.

AMCAS is half-lying when they say they've had a "record number of applicants". They're being honest in that this year did set a record, just as every year sets a new record since the number of applicants keeps increasing. However, they're intentionally ignoring the fact that the increase wasn't any different from previous years, and that the real reason for the hold up is ongoing technical issues with the verification process. AMCAS was already having a lot of difficulty with verification even before submissions opened, as evidenced by the fact that they had to delay submission. Then they tried to delay transmission, but screwed that up and just rolled with it.

Relax. While normally you'd be right to start worrying, this year is different. They're not even done with June submissions yet despite the fact that near the end of June they reported only having 15,000 applications which is in-line with previous years. Thanks to their slow progress the amount of people currently in the process of submitting or having submitted secondaries is likely more similar to mid-July in past years than mid-August.

I'd say you probably won't be verified for another two weeks, but relative to everyone else you're actually still going to be early. I suspect we're going to see AMCAS and med schools extend their deadlines this year, since people submitting primaries right now aren't going to be verified until mid-October at the current rate.

In the meantime, start writing secondaries so you can submit all of them the day you get them, which will make up for a lot of time.

They're currently verifying applications submitted on 7/1, so you can probably expect to be verified sometime next week.

If you check the AMCAS verification thread here, people who submitted July 1st are reporting being verified. AMCAS' official updates always seem to be 1 day behind 🙂

This. Some 7/1 people have been verified. And AMCAS's updates can even lag by more than 1 day.
