Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight as to how long it takes AMCAS to receive my most recent MCAT score? I am a second time applicant and one of my major flaws that I still have is my poor MCAT score. I have taken the exam two times and will be embarking on my third time taking it July 2nd.

With the application cycle for 2015 matriculation just opening up, I realize the importance of submitting applications early and not waiting until the latter parts of the summer/fall to submit. I was suggested by one of my academic advisors to be patient and not rush into taking the MCAT until I am 100% confident in my abilities, advice that I strongly abide by. Now with my exam on July 2nd, an option that my academic advisor also brought up would be to submit my application on the same day that I took the MCAT, or around that time frame.

My goal is to show application committees my overall improvement from the first time I applied two years ago to my current standing now and that includes, hopefully, a strong MCAT score. At the same time I am looking to have my application submitted as soon as possible, but only after I feel I have scored confidently enough on the MCAT. The first two times that I took the exam I received a 20S, and a 23. I want the medical schools to see my overall improvement in both academics and my MCAT score at the same time. In other words I want my application to be at its very best when it is under review by the medical schools I will be applying to, which would hopefully include my July 2nd test score.

The question now arises, about how long does it take for AMCAS and the medical school committees to receive my updated MCAT score?

If I remember clearly it took about 4-6 weeks to get my AMCAS application processed/verified and about 4-5 weeks to receive my MCAT score. Would there be a substantially long lag time in between the process of getting my application verified with my previous scores and then subsequently updated with my most recent MCAT score?

And if there is a lag, am I better off just waiting until August, when I have received my score to submit my application? I worry though that by waiting until August that my application will take a much longer time to be processed and verified and will further prolong my application process.

Thank you all for your input.

I'm pretty sure your MCAT scores automatically upload to AMCAS once they are available, at least that was the case for me. I don't remember having to upload them to AMCAS, or if I did, it was just the click of a few buttons. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The new MCAT score will go out to AMCAS schools on the same business day it becomes available. You don't have to do anything to send it out.
