So, I'm entering my work experience into AMCAS and I get to the part about hours worked. Prior to doing my post bacc, I was a full-time teacher. Do I put in the total number of hours I worked over the three years and then use the description box at the bottom to flesh out the ridiculously large number of hours?

Also, should I enter the number of hours I have already worked only, or should put in the expected number of hours at the end of the experience (1.5 years worth of hours). I'm leaning towards the former, but AMCAS instructions say I can put in the expected number of hours.

MedWonk, regarding your first question: I estimated numbers of hours for each of my jobs, put 999 (the highest number allowed) under "Total Hours", and then gave the actual number of hours and explained that that was a full time job in the description.

I don't really know the answer to your second question, but in my application I listed the number of hours I already have under my belt, not the number of hours expected, under "Total Hours". In some cases I actually wrote number of hours expected in the description for the activity if space allowed.

From one teacher to another, I want to wish you luck. I found that med schools like former teachers. 🙂

A phrase that I used a lot in my secondary essays was "in the original Latin, the term doctor meant teacher..." And I went on to describe how my teaching career has helped me learn how to be a better future physician.

Again, good luck this cycle.

PS- nice stats. I wish mine were that good.

Thank you! Good luck to you, too! OHSU was one of my top choices (I love Portland, visit every year and have an established social network there), but my GPA isn''t quite up to snuff for an OOS candidate. Maybe someday I'll make my way there.

Also thank you everyone else for the tips on how to input work on the app.
