Hi, this is my first time applying for med school and I am pretty much doing this on my own. I've tried searching the forums for answers but i could not find any. So here's my quetions: Are we required to complete all pre-medical prerequisites before applying for the AMCAS in june? I have a problem (being a student-at-large) getting into one of the bio classes, it's always filled by the time i register. It's the last class that i need to complete the pre-reqs and i won't be taking it until this Summer. The class won't end until late July, and I'm worried about being behind in the process-i'm hoping to get in Fall 2007. I'd really appreciate your input.

As long as you complete it before you matriculate, that should be fine at most schools. But you might want to call and double-check just in case.

Just wondering did you take the MCAT yet. If not, might be helpful to get that bio requirement out of the way since it could be beneficial when taking the MCAT.

I second that about calling to confirm if you can submit an AMCAS application while not having completed the pre-reqs. I was under the impression that you had to finish those pre-reqs to at least be considered.

You may also want to consider taking this course at another school concurrently (community college?) while going to your university. That is surprising that the class fills up so fast. I am assuming you are a junior or senior? You should have enough priority to register before a lot of people.

I'm taking the MCAT this April..I actually already have my bachelor's degree and went back to school again to finish the pre-med requirements. I'm pretty much registered as non-degree seeking so i'm last priority when it comes to registering. I was wondering about the AMCAS because some people got into med schools with one more class to take, and i thought that you need your grades to compute the GPA they give you. This bio class is supposed to be my last one..so i guess more studying this summer on top of work 🙁

I submitted my AMCAS before I completed my prereqs (had not yet finished Physics II), but I had already taken the MCAT. The schools I applied to required that the prereqs were completed before matriculation, not before application. The only drawback is that they do not have the scores for the class and (to my surprise) didn't want a transcript update - they basically reviewed my candidacy on the information they had. It worked out for me in the end, but you take a risk if there is any question raised with the adcom. As Q stated, you should call the schools directly to find out how they handle the situation. Best of luck to you!

thanks Medicalbound, i'll definitely call.
