Hey guys. I am planning on entering in 2014 or 2015 at the latest. I have just started to look into DO programs and so far I have came up with a list of 14 schools that I'm interested in.

Touro- Vallejo, CA
Western U- Pomona
Touro- Nevada
University of North Texas
Touro- NYC
Rocky Vista University
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Atlanta Campus)
Nova Southeastern
Lake Erie College of OM
Chicago College of OM
Arizona College of OM at Midwestern University
AT Still University

Is my list too long? Are any of these schools not good or recommended? Thank you so much for the help 🙂 🙂

Unless you are a Texas resident, or have very high stats, you would be wasting your money applying to TCOM.

Okay thanks 🙂 I didn't take the fact that TCOM is a public school into consideration.

I think I'm going to apply there anyway just to appease my boyfriend lol

Unless you're from the same or surrounding states do not apply to the PCOMs, they have strong biases on applicants. Not to say that you can't get in if you're a Californian for example, but less likely.

you would also have to go through a different application process than aacomas for tcom

Where do you live? What's your GPA? Have you taken the MCAT yet?

Look into DMU and KCUMB. Both are well established.

Yep, good schools and I second this as long as you're not averse living in the midwest. As for PCOM-PA, I would still apply there regardless of whether you're from that area.

I am a UC undergrad and a California resident. Both Science and non science GPA are around 3.5 (haven't taken physics yet....wish me luck) and I'm going to start officially studying for the MCAT around May 15th, also I am planning on working as a part time CNA during my Jr & Sr. years of undergrad

and by officially starting to study I mean that I plan on studying everyday this summer. I have been studying on and off since 2010

Source?

(I've heard this multiple times on SDN but it doesn't seem to correlate with their actual OOS percentage... unless I'm looking in the wrong place)

👍👍 This... And I assume the OP is talking about SOMA and KCOM when they say AT Still? If not KCOM is good to add to the list, maybe a slight bias 😉

I've seen numbers between 50-70% of their class being from Penn.

n=1 here. It feels like PCOM-PA took my money and ran.
Consider PCOM-GA instead if you're from the south.

Agree with above posters, if you're not averse to midwest, look into KCUMB and DMU.

If you want to be in the city, Touro-NY seem to be a popular choice this year. They are Cali-applicant-friendly. However, admissions need to get more organized and get their act together. Education-wise, there seems to be an upward trend.

I might be biased, but I personally loved LECOM-Bradenton (Florida, not Erie,PA)! They are very well organized, adcom is uber friendly, well developed PBL curriculum, located by the beach, highest passing rate on boards for 3 years (?) now, students seem happy, CHEAPEST tuition for private schools by far. It was hard for me to submit my e-mail to withdraw my application yesterday 🙁

So basically, MWUs, ATSUs, PCOMs, Touros, LECOMs, Western, Nova, RVU... You should add DMU, KCUMB, skip TCOM (or any state school) That is pretty much all of the schools except Edward Via, which I wouldn't tell you not to add, they are a good school. Until you have an MCAT, I'd say keep the list as-is because that may make a difference. If your MCAT is strong, I'd skip the LECOMs, Touros, and RVU (even though I will happily attend, there is much controversy)...

SBB2016, why would you say to skip those if you have a strong MCAT? And would a strong MCAT (31Q) make up for a lower GPA at these schools?
