I'm planning on applying to 25 allopathic schools and 5 osteopathic schools.

What is the ballpark amount of money I need to set aside for the entire application processes ?

How about for interview expenses?

From what I've seen, it seems to vary between $2.0-$5.0k. I'd probably set aside around $4.0k.

It depends on how many schools you're planning to apply to and how many interviews you go on/how far the schools are away from you. I think the interviewing part of the equation is the most expensive.

My total expenses for 14 applications and 8 interviews was between $3,000 and $3,500.

I drove to all interviews, and stayed in hotels at 5 of them.

I'd say 4-5k as a good estimate.

I applied to 25 schools and so far, the apps alone cost $2700. For interviews, I'm taking the train or airplane + public transportation, which can add up. Then I'm throwing in a couple hundred for miscellaneous expenses (gifts for hosts, unexpected expenses, dry cleaning suit, the cost of the suit, etc.)

I had 10 interviews and spent a total of about $5,000 on the entire application process. But I am from Oregon and I had to fly to 9 of my interviews, most on the East Coast. However, I did not have any money to set aside. I had to use credit cards, and that 5 grand is still haunting me several years later. I make my payments on time, and the credit card companies insist on screwing me and raising my rates to usurious levels.

Years ago, usury was a crime and unscrupulous lenders were either drawn and quartered or thrown into prison.

I would love to see the president of one particularly evil bank drawn and quartered.
