Hey everyone,

I recently was nominated to this program by Albert Einstein COM and wanted to know if anyone has any info on it that has gone through it before or is considering it. It sounds like a pretty amazing program but there isnt much information out there about it that I could find.

Thanks!

Good for you! I live in Buffalo. I know it's a two year program. The tuition is covered by the program. Room and board is covered or a stipend is given I believe. When you complete the program, you will then matriculate into Albert Einstein SoM.
Do you mind sharing you stats? I'm also looking into this program, even though I don't like living in Buffalo.
My und. gras 3.37
Science gpa 3.34
MCAT- August date (previous mcat 494 yikes!)
volunteer at Hospital, refugee resettlement and campus activities.

Yup thats pretty much all the info I got from the offer letter and I guess the most important lol but I was wondering about more specific things like about the summer component and what kind of classes are taken etc.

cGPA: 3.2
sGPA: 3.4
MCAT: 30
Tons of research. Worked as a scribe for two years volunteered at a hospital for a few months.
Did you go to UB for undergrad?
Whats wrong with Buffalo? Lol im trying to learn a little about the city too since I know its probably drastically different from where Im from (Miami, as my name subtly implies).

Buffalo is a small city on the rise, not a lot of outdoor activities, very different from Miami. Complete opposite in fact, I've lived in Orlando. I believe the courses, according to the website are individually structured, after completing something like a placement test. I honestly don't know how that works. There is a new medical campus opening soon in the downtown area.
Honestly, Don't let my opinion discourage you, I've been in Buffalo for 5 years now, everyone I know is leaving whether the city is on the rise or not.
I went to SUNY Buffalo State which is not catered towards premed, so I moving to Boston for the Harvard Extensions School premedical program.
BTW you need a car in Buffalo, there is NO RELIABLE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ANYWHERE. UB has two campus one in north tonawanda and the south campus in buffalo. I believe most of the medical school is downtown buffalo.

With tons of research A E, declined you? what kind of research did you do? btw did you do an interview before they referred you? or did they refer you from an application stand point?

Thanks for the info and congrats on the Harvard program!! How would you compare it to Orlando cause even that is way different than Miami lol
Damn well hopefully the dorm or whatever they provide is close to or on campus. I dont know if the stipend they give is generous enough for me to lease a car..

Yeah man, I honestly think they liked me bt I just didnt have the GPA for acceptance so theyre throwing me a bit of a bone with this program.
Yeah I interviewed all the way at the beginning of the cycle, got rejected less than a month ago.

Buffalo is very different from Orlando, in terms or weather, transportation, city scene. The people are okay around here, but as far as opportunity goes, nothing much, esp in the medical field. Most people will let you know they prefer people who are been grown up here, live here and will stay here. Thats why I'm leaving. Think of Buffalo as a rebuilding city after all the factories etc left. There are many small businesses around, that you'll probably get tired of. But hence you probably won't have time for them anyway in the program your'e in.
On the bright side, I've booked flights on Jetblue to Orlando for under $100!

Hey, idk if this thread is still active but I was wonder what stats I need to be considered for this program?

I also just got refferd to the program. U wld have to interview with one of the medical schools in the program first. After success completion of the program u are guaranteed acceptance at the school that referred u.

Were you referred after interviewing for Fall 2018 admission?

I also was just referred by SUNY Buffalo. However, I interviewed and was placed on a waitlist for fall 2018. But they didn’t mention anything about my waitlist status. Is it possible to be rejected off of a waitlist? Lol

Yes. I was referred by Einstein. I interviewed with them for the 2018 entering class. Probably they want us but blv we are not well equipped yet for med sch this yr. So they want to tie us down for next yrs class, which I think is great. Am also on a waitlist at another med sch. So I will wait and see what happens, but am very sure I will end up doing the post-bacc and start sch nxt yr.

I think they know u wont get in this yr, thats why they are gvn u another shot for nxt yr. the good thing is that u dont have to reapply to get accepted next yr.

Makes a lot more sense!! Did you have to interview again for the post-bac? Buffalo wants me to come in again and do another interview. I guess all schools have different processes. Thanks !

I got the call only on Wednesday and now waiting for the letter to get more details abt it. But the one I spoke to just said I only have to accept the offer, so I don’t think I wld have to interview again.
I th this is a great program esp knowing that its free and u also get a stipend (hopefully its not just 50 bucks)..

Just received an offer for the program via AMC this morning. Still sitting on 3 waitlists, but this seems like a fantastic opportunity and I was going to skip a cycle (I.e., wait to apply for class of 2024 otherwise). Less than 10 days to decide - anybody have any feedback/additional info they’ve heard on the program? Really unsure what to do.

If you have no acceptances then this seems like the obvious best choice. Unless you don’t really want to go to Albany and think you can get in somewhere better if you apply again

Thanks for responding! My biggest concern is that I’m a TX resident. So, for one, this is a major move to be making last minute. Additionally (and this is the bigger thing for me), the contrast between AMC & a TX school as far as tuition is concerned is massive (also, all 3 waitlists im on rn are TX schools). But obviously it’s not a sure thing that I’d even get in to a TX school next cycle. I really liked Albany itself as a school, but like I said, the money difference jumps out.

Oh ok now I understand why you’re conflicted. The price difference is pretty big...and I don’t think Albany offers a ton of scholarships. You should reach out to all of those TX schools, explain your situation/this opportunity, emphasis that you need to know sons since you would have to move very soon. And mention how much you loved the program. Write this in a formal letter and also call saying hey I just sent letter about my situation and I wanted to see if you could me know about expected waitlist movement and if should move on with this other opportunity.

Hmm, yeah this is sort of what I was thinking to do. Not sure how responsive any of the schools will be because they’re all pretty big on not disclosing app/waitlist status, but it couldn’t hurt. I’ll probably draft something up today - I appreciate the help!

I was in a similar position as you about a year ago when I got the offer except I was on only one waitlist. You can accept the offer and let them know youre on a waitlist. If I remember correctly at the end of the form you can list the schools at which you are waitlisted.

Hmmm so are you saying that I can accept this offer but still ultimately withdraw from it should I receive a last-minute acceptance elsewhere?

Also, did you ultimately end up participating in this program? If so, could you share a little about your experience?

Im pretty sure that's the case but Id confirm with Mr. Angevin, the program coordinator. I didn't get pulled off the waitlist so yes I ended up accepting the offer and will be starting med school come Fall. Ill PM you.

Would anyone have any more information on this? I was nominated and am going to do this program, but no information has been sent to me still and I am moving next week!! Idk what they need of me or if they need health screens/immunizations/drug tests (only asking so that I can get all of this out of the way since I am coming from out of state). Thanks!

In a similar boat as you, but I’ve been able to get a little bit of info from Mr. Angevin. Feel free to PM me!

Hey y'all. I know one must be nominated for this program, but I was rejected Post II by a school which hinted at a "1 year Masters program w/ conditional acceptance" (aka this program). Should I email them expressing my interest in being nominated to the program?? I'm pretty sure the school doesn't nominate people for AMSNY until May based on my SDN research. Please help a brotha out!
