I would like to ask all of you who have been fortunate enough to get accepted to multiple schools to make a decision soon and commit to a school and withdraw your application from other schools. Some of us here are quite stressed out and miserable.

Thank you…..

Totally agree with you. Based on what I was told, addsas will disclose applicants acceptance and deposit info sometime around May to schools. Therefore, schools will know whether applicants have made multiple deposits.

I remember reading a thread last year that said aadsas never did that.

I was told by the dean during the interview. It might be a new policy but they are doing it this year for sure.

Honestly, people should be allowed to take as much time as their allotted. Those with multiple acceptances worked hard to get them and shouldn't feel rushed to make a decision that will affect the next 4 or more years of their lives. Lots of factors need to be considered and it does take time to pick a school. As selfish as you think it is for them to take their time, its pretty selfish to tell them to rush their decision.

It was very hard to narrow it down to one school.....but I did it, I'm moving on, and I opened up 4 spots so good luck to everyone!

There is a difference between taking the time you are allotted by a school (30 days, 45 days, etc.) and placing multiple deposits down and holding multiple slots at once. The first time I applied to d-school in 1996, I was accepted to 8 schools on Dec. 1 (10 total). I held on to those slots until I made my decision withinthe 45 days that the schools allowed me to do back then. There is nothing wrong with that because this is within the time limit they give people. But, when you place deposits down, that is supposed to be because you are chosing that school, not to serve as an extension on the time you can make a decision. That is selfish to do to others who will eventually get in, but have to stress out that they may not get in this year. I know of one person on this site who placed 6 deposits down until he made his decision during the summer. Yes, he lost a bunch of money, but he didn't care. He didn't see anything wrong doing that. That is selfish - plain and simple!!! He had tie to plan things out, but the five other people who eventually received his slots weren't afforded the luxury. I am sure they were just excited that they were accepted, but they probably would have loved to had a couple months to plan their move rather than a couple weeks.

Completely agree with that, its definitely unfair to hold multiple deposits into the summer. But I just think the OP was being unfair to people who hadnt placed any deposits yet, asking them to committ and withdraw the rest of their applications. It's a huge decision and you're given 30/45 days for a reason.

My request was also directed to the people who have no intentions of attending a school and pretty much have made up their mind with regard to what school they want to attend but STILL do not bother to withdraw their application from other schools.

Someone said in an earlier post. You can't put down multiple deposits this cycle, because it won't process. AADSAS is notified of accepted offers this cycle, and it's preventing multiple deposits.

but you don't put deposits down through aadsas, so how would it know? From my experience, you pay the school directly.

but this notification won't happen until may right?
Because I placed a deposit with NYU
but was recently accepted at Case
so I'll be withdrawing at NYU once Case confirms receipt of my deposit. That should be ok right?

You pay the school directly. When they update AADSAS and AADSAS kicks it back is the problem. Or so I assume.

I tried to submit a 2nd desposit to buy some more time. More time lapsed than should have without the school confirming - between one and two weeks, actually. The entire time, I thought, "crap, it's not going thru." Then I gave up and withdrew. If any other student has contrary experiences, feel free to share. AADSAS may be playing the middleman this year.

You may have to withdraw first.

At most schools, you are only given a certain time frame to make a decision. If you don't make the decision by placing a deposit within this time frame, your acceptance will be assumed as a decline if they don't hear from you and your slot will be given to someone else. So, after a certain time, their slot is gone anyways, so there is no need for them to request their application be withdrawn. Now, it would be nice if they would do that right away after they make their decision, but it is not necessary and will not delay others getting that slot. The only way others get delayed getting a slot is when people place multiple deposits down as a stated before.

You are missing the point buddy. Those of us who are qualified will get in eventually. However, the whole waiting process is very stressful and it would be great if we could get in sooner than latter.

Ahh ok, I just took a look at the guidlines found here and as long as i withdraw from NYU by may 1st it should be ok so I can wait for Case to confirm first

It would be tragic if an applicant had multiple deposits and all the schools withdrew his/her spot in the class.:scared:

Not to burst your bubble, but there are a lot of very qualified applicants that do not get in. Read this site this summer and fall and you will see that.

Yes, I understand it is very stressful, but it is a fact of life when going through an application process. Some people never get in. If you are fortunate enough to get an acceptance, feel blessed rather pissed that it took so long.

So true. That's why I stayed humble through the whole process. If a school had to redo a class year they could easily have ended up with a whole different bunch of characters. No sense of talking about a school if the admissions committee won't even give you a chance to make your case.

I formally withdrew my acceptance from NYU today, so that should free up another spot for someone. And just a to add my input on deciding between schools...... I thought it would be easy to decide, but really it is an important decision, and as sucky as it is to have to wait for other people to decide, it is their right to take their time and make that important decision. As for me I also waited till i had confirmation from my chosen school before I actually withdrew my acceptance from NYU.... And another thing..... just because you don't get in this year doesn't mean that you aren't qualified/ won't get in next year... I didnt get in last year and had largely the same application this year, but this year I got in to multiple schools.... So as i have said before if you are truly passionate about being a dentist then you will find a way to make it happen...

Honestly if you are in line to get in, you will. If you are not, you will not. It's quite simple. Everybody has had to wait a long time, some people may have to wait a little longer!

That being said, I wouldn't hold multiple spots.
