Hi all,

I just got an RA position in a radiological analysis lab (all research, no clinical aspect). I'm a premed and I don't know the damnedest thing about MRIs, fMRIs, or basically any medical imaging.

Would anyone be willing to give me a quick rundown of the info I will need to know? The research sponsor said to read up on some publications they did, and that's it.

Thanks!

What pubs did they recommend you read? The pubs might be good to learn about the different imaging modalities.

Otherwise, Learning Radiology (the book and/or the website) might be helpful? At least at the med student level I believe it would be helpful, not sure about pre-med.

Pubs from our lab about 'networks,' built using fMRIs. And I'm not a med student but hopefully I'll be able to digest that.

There are a few MRI books that might be more helpful if you are doing basic science MRI stuff.

"MRI made easy"
Totally accessible MRI"
"How does MRI work"

They are probably available at a medical library affialiated with your institution.

My school only has a vet school 😉 next time at the medical school I'll go check them out. Thanks

I'm not a radiologist, but I've worked with a research assistant who had to learn about MRI. Here are a few web sites that might be helpful on the basics of MRI though not specific to fMRI:
MRIQuestions[dot]com
Radiopaedia -- a bit more clinical, but has concise basic info
