Rejected recently from Western U. Already rejected from UCSF, Midwestern AZ, Harvard, and UNLV.

Haven't heard diddly squat from ASDOH, NYU, Maryland, Boston, UoP and UCLA.

ahhhh oh man that sucks. Looking at your predents profile, maybe its just because youre like a really regular applicant with really average stats. I feel like there may be lots of applicants like you with similar mediocre stats. Your DAT isnt 20 or above (which wouldve been nice) and your science gpa isnt too high :-( but thats not to say that people with your gpa dont get in. I mean, im sure they do i just think youve been unlucky so far......i guess hang in there and keep some hope for the spring. Also i would say maybe you shouldve applied to more schools but it seems youve applied to at least 12 and theres lots of private schools in there too.
Did you interview at any of the schools ? maybe it was your interview thats holding you back?
Have you thought about what you would do if God forbid you dont get accepted this cycle?

Bro worse gets to worse you WILL APPLY NExT CYCLE.

SPRING SEm. make sure to increase your science GPA. AND apply the first day aadsas opens. Apply smartly. apply to at least 20+ schools. Buy the adea book official guide to dental schools it will help you plan what schools you should apply to.

Good luck.

I'm amazed people like you remember my posts from back in the day and follow it. I didn't know people looked at people's ID's. I sure don't, most of the time. But yeah this whole thing sucks.

No interviews, though I did hear from my friend that the longer ASDOH waits out, the better.

you wasted your money on some of those apps for sure

There's still hope for getting in. But like another poster mentioned, if you don't hear any good news this cycle, apply next cycle. Almost half of the students who apply to dental school get accepted after 2 or more tries. So, don't feel like it's the end of the world.
Good luck!👍

I would say just Harvard.

and the UC's. i wouldnt count on getting in to UC with below average stats unless you are a URM [if you're in state]. if you're out of state..glhf

I would say just Harvard.

Also, UoP (OP does not have high DAT with his below average GPA) and Maryland/UNLV (State schools and his GPA is way to low to get even considered). The OP should have applied to only the schools he has the chance to get in and they are very very limited but it looks as if even with the restrictions based on the OP's GPA, he had the courage to apply to places he has absolutely no chance to get in possibly due to delusion that somehow the schools will find his application over 4,000 other applicants with higher stats and be amazed by whatever he thinks is going for him. He should come back to reality and research more carefully to what schools he should apply to.

My stats are in the ballpark (granted a little higher all around with a post bac) and I have an interview at UCSF.

Congrats for your uniqueness??????? You are an exception. Want a cookie?

We are talking about the OP's personal choices. He should maximize his chances at dental acceptances. Yes there ALWAYS a chance to get into Harvard, UPENN, UOP, UCSF, LA etc; however, with 2pacs stats you want schools that are lesser on the GPA/DAT side...and therefore you should choose schools lesser on gpa/dat compared to the ones he has chosen.

+1 apply smartly...

Ignore exceptions.

Which schools should the OP apply to next cycle that are "less on dat/gpa" for next cycle?

Uhh you have 500+ posts for 2 years, I'm sure you know. The 2010-2011 ADEA book supplies one with information on average incoming class GPA/DAT for certain schools. You look at what gpa/dat you have, and choose the schools that you have a best shot at.

I dunno if you are trying to start a "flame" war, but we all know that all dental schools have their picks on dat/gpa. It's a simple numbers game.

Edit: Unless you misinterpreted the "less on dat/gpa" part by thinking they are more on "EC's, clubs and crap." I meant LESS GPA/DAT average schools then some of the higher GPA/DAT schools.

why did you apply to harvard, ucla, uop, ucsf?

your GPA is shot and your DAT is average (still on the skimpy side w/ that GPA), what made you do it and not apply more broadly?

Sorry - not trying to start a flame war. I have posted much but an area i'm starting to try to learn more about is specific schools as I'm applying next cycle. I took your statement to mean that maybe there are schools that may have lower gpa averages and therefore might look at other areas of the applicaiton to access competitiveness. With everyone critiz. the OP school list I was wondering which school would have been better, that's all.

The OP has made like 5 plus posts just like this, and everyone tells him the same advice:

Pick better schools to apply to.
Apply to more schools.
Improve your GPA.
Apply day one of the next cycle.
Consider a post bac as your GPA is below average.

Make an action plan instead of hanging on the chance of acceptance. The day after Dec 1st, after realizing that there was a very real chance that I may not be accepted, I got a plan on paper. Not only did it make me feel better, but it got my mind off of what I couldn't control and moved it to a place where I felt could do something. From what it looks like you will have to make some large strides to make it into dental school. Start planning what those strides are now.

Good luck :xf:

Did you do merely post-bacc classes or Master's?

Did the same thing after getting rejected 2 app cycles in a row (2008 & 2009). Actually decided to not apply in the 2010 cycle so that I could just focus on doing an informal post-bacc for a little under 2 years and getting As. If you can do that, you'll be golden. Schools will like that you were a re-applicant that identified his/her shortcomings and responded (both in the classroom and with more ECs). Again, I did not do a Masters. Mainly because I wanted to take the # and types of classes I wanted to without having to deal with any "requirements" getting a M.S. might have.

Still nothing. Damnit. I'll call up all the schools again after I take my GRE this Tuesday and see where I go.

Rejected from ASDOH. That was my only chance pretty much. Hate my life.

Still nothing from USC, NYU, Boston, Maryland and UCLA, UoP.

It's not the end of the world. Seems like you should prepare to reapply this coming June. Matriculating 1 year later in the long run is not that bad.
What have you been doing since last September to boost your chances if you had to reapply? If you can't boost your science gpa to above 3.0, you should rewrite your DAT. Your gpa combined with your current DAT score is not competitive whatsoever considering how competitive it is to receive acceptance not alone an interview these days. It is only going to become more competitive next year so definitely rewrite your DAT.

I'm actually applying to some Master's programs. And BTW, they mailed it to me for the dude wondering.

Only you can do that. Your GPA is pretty low so you shouldn't have expected a shower of interviews and acceptances; at least you still have possibilities out there. Keep your head up and worst case is that you apply again next year after making your application a little better.

By next year, do you mean this upcoming June or do you mean the year after that? (June 2012)?

So far I'm applying to like 2-3 Master's program so let's see where this takes moi.

It would do you best to at least have 1 year of the Masters down before you apply. So you should probably apply in June 2012. It's up to you though.

Hmm, its all up to how much you want it. I would take 18 units spring sem- ace them, then take about 20 units over the summer and ace those to. On top of that retake the DAT. Yes it sounds like the typical SDN hardcore nerd personality, but hell, thats what got ME into dental school.

It's better to play it safe, be overachieving and have a plethora of interviews, then to play it cool and be underachieving with little to no interviews.

I think it would be best to apply in 2012 so you can add more to your resume, you won't have really added that much in the time between this summer and now (probably). I would just wait until you feel like your application has been visibly improved.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. If I get into a Master's, I'll do that. If not, then I'll do a bunch of undergraduate science courses over at another institution and ace them all to raise my GPA. Then re-apply June 2012!

3/14 UPDATE:

- Bad News: Still haven't gotten a single interview. Only schools remaining so far are NYU, Boston, Maryland, UCLA, UoP, and USC

- Good News: Accepted to UCR's Biochemistry 1 Year Master's program. Still have 2 more Master's applications left.

2PacClone23 ~

I didn't read a question in your original post... are you looking for advice or you just want to vent?

Anyways, the 3 things that I think held/holding you back this cycle were:
a) didn't apply to enough schools
b) didn't pick schools wisely enough (UoP? Harvard?)
c) that 2.9 sGPA

I agree with Maygyver ~ take the next year and improve your application and apply early again on June of 2012. If I was in your position right now, I wouldn't do a masters, I'd focus on an intense informal post-bacc, 15+ credits on Spring and Fall and around 8-12 over this summer. If you 4.0 them all, that'll significantly bring your sGPA (and possibly fix majority of your problems)

FML!

the only formal rejections i got were from unlv and uconn. the only california school that i ever heard from ucsf. i still haven't heard anything from usc, ucla, uop & western. but now it doesnt even matter to me lol

can i just ask why in the world would you apply to Harvard univ with a 2.9sgpa?

Positive that I got into UCR's 1 Year Master's?

You guys are hatin' though!

Keep your head up 2pacclone23, I was in the same boat sgpa-wise as you last year. I did a one year masters, ended up with 5 interviews this cycle and got in. So just focus on destroying this coming year and you should be alright.

who is hating? That is awesome you got into a year master program @ UCR and can show the committee that you want to go to dental school:luck:

Okay thanks. I shall most def destroy UCR's 1 year program and reapply. Hopefully when I get in, I shall owe it all to you guys and you guys' patience with my crazy life haha.

UPDATE: USC rejection 🙁 🙁😡

I'm all but empty on any hope remaining for dental schools.

Still have UCLA, Maryland, NYU, and Boston University

Anyone know why UCLA hasn't rejected me yet? Miracle in the making? 🙄
