Analogous structures in Ochem

If a structure is given (for instance toulene) and the question asks which of the structures is analagous and gives four structures, are we basically finding something the same number of carbons, hydrogens, etc? or something with the same function?

It depends. They could also be asking about an isomer, or about structural properties (polar, non-polar). But since it is toluene, I doubt they are asking about an isomer, so I would just look for major similarities.

Hmm maybe they will give you a picture of a molecule and then give you in the answers the same molecule in a different conformation?

Like two different Chair conformations?

That would really be the same molecule though and not just analagous.

Two different yet similarly acting functional groups might make more sense.
