I spent the last couple hours of my life attempting to find which subscore best predicts the sum of the other two subscores. I tried to investigate by collecting 146 different MCAT scores from the 30+ mcat thread (all of the scores from pages 1,6,11,16,21, and 26), and graphing the various combinations of subscores versus eachother. We find that BS is the best predictor of the other two scores (with an R^2 value of .2373), and VR is the worst (R^2 = .0257); PS predicts its companions with an R^2 of .1549.
Additionally, I took the liberty to graph each subscore versus eachother, to see which pair correlates most highly with eachother. We find that PS predicts BS (R^2 of .2580) more than VR predicts BS or PS (R^2's of .0386 and .0066, respectively). As per the SDN wisdom, VR correlates better with BS than PS because "BS is basically a VR test." It is unsurprising that BS and PS are the subscores that have the highest relation, because these are the two subscores that actually respond to study (at least, much more than VR). Three months of study will improve a guys BS and PS subscores by quite a margin, leaving their VR scores in the dust, so to say.
