Hi, i was wondering if I should take these courses during the same semester or spread them out. My advisor says taking them at the same time is bad because its too much information, but my friend says they work well together. any help would be awesome.

Depending on what else you are taking, I think that pairing them together is a good idea! I guess it would depend on the school, but it is definitely doable and depending on how the professors teach them they can compliment each other very nicely

Exactly perfectly said.

If you were to take them together and do really well, it will go a long way in showing medical schools that you can handle a difficult course load.

That really shouldn't be a deciding factor for taking courses. Adcoms usually don't take an in depth look at the courses people take.

If your friend says they work well together, then I say go for it. Learning about the structure of things will make more sense and be more interesting if you understand the function (and vice versa). It will definitely be a lot of info though, so make sure you have plenty of time to study. And like Ismet said, don't take them together because you think that will look good..... I don't think med schools will care... at all. Good luck!

As an undergraduate physiology major, an a current graduate student in the area of Physiology, I will say the only course I have taken in 7 years of academia where I felt I was at a disadvantage for not having taken Anatomy, was histology. Anatomy introduces an EXTENSIVE amount of detail, a considerable amount of which bears no relevance to function, i.e. no relevance to physiology. Any anatomy that you need to understand a given concept in physiology is typically presented along side the functional information. I'd say pick one or the other. Doesn't matter if you take A before B or B before A in this case, honestly.

Along these same lines... What is the difference between taking an anatomy and a physiology class versus taking a class that is titled anatomy and physiology? Is the latter less rigorous? Is it viewed differently by adcoms?

Adcoms don't care what you take.

A 1-semester course called anatomy and physiology is probably a less specific course than taking a separate 1-semester anatomy and 1-semester physiology.

I know that if your grades are on the boarder of what a school usually accept, they will look at the specific courses.
