Hi. I plan to apply to a few dental schools this summer that require anatomy as a pre-req. I was wondering what you guys would recommend. This summer I'll be taking a 4xxx level physiology course to fulfill my biochem major. I have a few options to fulfill the anatomy requirement:

So this summer I would take:

Option 1
4xxx physiology
2xxx human anatomy and physiology I

OR

Option 2
4xxx physiology
3xxx human structure and function

I know that schools prefer to see upper level courses, but the lower level human anatomy and physiology I fits better with my schedule. Also, would schools count Human structure and function as anatomy?

Thank you.

Does it follow the course sequence for your human anatomy and physiology I (is it Human A&P II)? For Indiana, at least, If you're taking Human A&P instead of gross anatomy, they want to see Human A&P I and II course sequence; but, you might be able to substitute it. Just call them.

Which schools are you applying to that require Anatomy? I'm doing the same thing, and all I've found was Indiana requiring it.

I would be taking Human A&P I during summer and then Human A&P II during fall. My concern is that I would rather take the 3000 human structure and function, but I'm not sure if dschools would consider that anatomy. So I thought about taking 2000 level human anatomy and PHYSIOLOGY course while taking a 4000 level PHYSIOLOGY course. It just seems..odd?

I haven't double checked with school websites, but according to the ADEA official guide book, schools like UNC, Indiana, and Midwestern-Arizona and Illinois require anatomy. The book says the new dental school LECOM requires anatomy, but their website only recommends it.

I would do option 2.... option 1 seems like a waste of time (because of the big 4xxx physiology + the half-ass 200 physiology)

In traditional anatomy class, there is a saying: "Form follows function".... sounds like that 3xxx class is anatomy taught from a different prospective, I think its a great course
