UAMS, Washington Regional Approved for Residency Programs in Neurology, Emergency Medicine in Northwest Arkansas

Not sure how I feel about this one. I can't see UAMS attaching themselves to something sketchy. Plus, it sounds like their peds rotations are going to be excellent. Arkansas has 2 programs now: UAMS and Unity Health. But, it's still another program. At least it's not CMG backed or HCA

Ironically, I knew the PD when he was coming up through residency. Used to bring him patients on the ambulance, Always seemed to be a solid guy

Hard to get mad about a true state university-affiliated program, even if it is "more". Northwest AR certainly needs to attract and retain doctors. It's not like this is the 18th HCA program in FL.

Also randomly reminds me of the funniest thing I read along these lines, recently ... a headline in one of my daily newsreel e-mails:

"2 schools partner on accelerated bachelor’s/MD program"

Me: Oh, nice, like the Brown PLME program, I wonder what rigorous and respected institution is starting one of their own ......... 😂

There will be more and more. I dont suppose it will slow down anytime soon until it has to slow down.

HCA has taught nonprofits that its an easy way to save millions while ensuring a steady number of new docs for their EDs.

At this point I'd expect all tertiary referral hospitals with over 30K visits and 300 beds to start their own residency programs.

It's amazing how the delusional reddit NPCs will look at match data thing think "it's getting better!" While we still have rampant residency expansion.

Literally churning out more graduates with lower pass rates to practice in the face of noctor+AI replacement.

It's going to be a bloodbath.

LMAO

My "powerhouse" residency is the same.

Yet my former program director had the balls to come out and say this year was the best match they've ever had.

It's truly a garbage field.

That’s just a program director playing program director politics although it would be funny if one came out and said how disappointed they were in the quality of their match class.

Clicked the link and probably shouldn't have. Wow.

Sadly, this link didn't have any quotes from Emergency Medicine.

A couple choice quotes about the current lottery ticket – anesthesiology:

"... even with a good payer mix [our collections] simply cannot afford enough CRNAs and anesthesiologists to cover all of our ORs so [our system has] had to dig into our pockets for the first time this year to subsidize our coverage."

"Unsustainable. Salaries for anesthesiologists and CRNA are increasing at a pace that is unsustainable based on decreasing reimbursement."
