I'm not sure if I am posting this in the correct forum, but I had no clue where to post it.
I just wanted to get some opinions from everyone on my future plans/some constructive criticism.

Some background info:
I am planning on applying to some of the Anesthesia Assistant schools this coming application cycle. Since I am an Louisiana resident, I know there is virtually 0 percent chance that I will be able to practice there, which is fine. Although I don't foresee having to move back to Louisiana, you never know.

I was wondering if it would be a smart idea (or a complete waste of time and money) to go into a part time MBA or masters in health care admin while I am working as an AA. That way if I have to move to a state where AA's arent licensed for a while I would have an advanced degree to aid in a job search until I was able to move back to a stare where AA's are recognized. Maybe I am over thinking it; I have no clue.

Thank you for any insight on this idea.

My thought is that you need to practice anesthesia as soon as you graduate or you will lose the novice skills that you acquire during training.

I agree...thats why I would do a part time MBA program, hypothetically. The part time MBA programs are usually tailored for a older student who is in the workforce so the classes are held in the evenings/nights.
I would intend to work fulltime as an AA and attend night classes.

It's a good qualification to have, but do keep in mind that the name on your MBA matters a lot, for one, and two, that you want to spend as little time out of the anesthesia workforce post-grad as possible.

Do you think an MBA or Masters in Healthcare Admin would be better? I was leaning toward MBA just due to the versatility.

If you are concerned at all in terms of geographic flexibility then I wouldn't recommend AA school. Getting a MBA or MPH shouldn't be back up plan, rather it should be a way to transition out of another field. Just bc you have a MBA or MPH after your name, it won't get you an interview or job unless you also have the relevant experience for what you are applying. I know bc I happen to have both a MBA and MPH (and I'm an AA too) from a top 10 school and went into consulting right afterwards. Plus, it is going to be very hard to transition "back" to anesthesia if you have been gone longer than a few years. You will probably have to retrain for a while.

Go into the AA program with an eye for the locations that are currently available. New states take time and money.

Newly minted AA's need to practice anesthesia. Your perspective will change. And yes, I think you're overthinking it. If you're second guessing the career choice that's fine - but AA training isn't cheap. I wouldn't do it anticipating the need or desire to do something else totally unrelated.
