Anesthesiologists are NOT MDA's !

is it the redundancy of it that irks you?

We all know that everyone in the medical field are a bunch of acronym fools.

No, it's not the redundancy.
Do you call a surgeon MDS? or an internist MDI?

i certainly do not and you make a valid point.

After all of the "conversations" about CRNAs and MDs i think people just got tired of typing anesthesiologist and ended up with MDA. I think that is reasonable.

I suppose we could all use MD and the point would be understood since we are in the anesthesiology sub-forum.

However, disliking the the acronym just because you don't like it is rather childish, don't you think? It is akin to throwing a temper tantrum, what with all of your capital letters, font colors, and incessant raving about how the acronym doesn't make sense.

It's alright plankton, i'll get you some oreos instead of the fruit roll ups.......

:corny:

make sure you talk to attendings like that if you make it into med school. you should always tell them exactly how you feel and what is on your mind.

Are you trying to be funny???
If you are then I hate to tell you: it's not working!
You know very well why this acronym is insulting, and if you don't I don't have time to explain it to you.
So why don't you concentrate on something relevant to your nursing career because this forum is really beyond your level.

snip.......

No it is a calculated effort by the CRNAs to devalue the MD education. After all a CRNA is a type of nurse. So an MDA is a type of physician (which by implication must be somewhat equivalent see the "a"). It devalues the value of phyisician education. I totally agree with Plankton here.

the A's at the end of the acronyms are not, in my opinion, an attempt by the CRNAs to equilibrate themselves with the MDs. That is quite a stretch and stinks of conspiracy theory. If you could provide some corroborating evidence, that would help.

I am not trying to raise a ruckus and i am not trying to offend anyone and i am not siding with the CRNAs. Actually, I don't want to be a CRNA for many of the reasons you all have posted here in this forum.

Alright, so my last post was a little harsh......and i may have catapulted this thread into yet another CRNA/anesthesiologist rant and rave thread. These were not my intentions.

Actually, i did not know why the acronym was insulting. I thought you just didn't like it without rhyme or reason, hence the caustic post.

Since Plankton brought it up, perhaps i should explain why i frequent the MD/resident forums while i am an RN.

1) I am certainly not going to talk about the MCAT all day with a bunch of 20-22 year olds who have no job and virtually no medical experience in the pre-allopathic or MCAT forum.
2) I work in the ICU and while this is not anesthesia, it is anesthesia and intensive care that interest me the most and where i want to work should i get into medical school.
3) the critical care forum on this board is absolutely vacant.
4) all nurses just flat out sucks since all posts are screened (who knows how long that takes) so you never have everyone's opinions. My last caustic post never would have made it and this is one of the many thing that attracts me to this board. First amendment, anyone? Not to mention almost everyone is an idiot over there i have seen maybe 1 or 2 technical posts about physiology and the like. That stuff happens all the time over here.
5) i work with anesthesia and surgery everyday with patients and their families. We often end up being the liaison.

lastly, perhaps this forum is beyond my level, but i have learned more here than i have on any other forum and this is why i am still here despite the semi-frequent hazing.

I'm guilty of using it. I apologize. I wouldn't use it in normal verbal communication but it is certainly easier to type MDA versus anesthesiologist. But I guess I can just make it even easier on myself and just type MD.

What would be a more appropriate acronym? When you say MD you can be referring to anyone, MDA just specifies that the MD is an anesthesiologist. No one says MDS because surgeon is not a long word (I'm so smart). Why does everything have to be a conspiracy?

Proclivity, why don't you want to be a CRNA? My partner is planning to go to CRNA School, so I need to know if there is something we are missing.

"1) I am certainly not going to talk about the MCAT all day with a bunch of 20-22 year olds who have no job and virtually no medical experience in the pre-allopathic or MCAT forum."

you have a dui and were rejected from med school a few years ago. (but according to you, not because of your dui - you're just a poor candidate). you never even reapplied. but you're "pre-med."

you are a floor nurse who has been in the icu for 2 weeks. you are probably still trying to figure out how to transduce an A-line.

YOU don't post about physiology. You are not here to post about physiology. I highly doubt allnurses is banning your posts because they are about physiology. You are here to create drama and satisfy your frustrated ego that you are important enough to hang with physicians, who rejected you from their club.

"i have learned more here than i have on any other forum and this is why i am still here despite the semi-frequent hazing."

you think this is "semi-frequent hazing?"

go away. you like the attention and the drama. physicians feel obligated to educate and that is the only reason you are getting replies. you won't get them any longer. just ask cremesickle.

I don't want to be a simply because i desire to go to medical school. I think i would like to work in intensive care or anesthesiology. I suppose it has something to do with once a CRNA, always a CRNA and not having options of specialty like you would when applying for residency post med school. However, even if i end up as an anesthesiologist, i can still work on the SICU and MICU following the progress of the patients.

I couldn't agree more that this acronym needs to go!
Each time I hear this I always reply that: "I am positive my degree does not have an A after MD."

anger is a gift, use it wisely.

you have no idea how many nurses, respiratory therapists, radiology techs, nurses aides, PTs, or OTs there are on this forum. you should be happy that i have disclosed as much as i have in my profile. I could just as easily passed myself as someone else or just not filled anything in like many members on this board.

i applied to med school for matriculation this year......i will reapply and i will get in....DUI or not. I have nothing to prove to you. I was trying to help out one of your fellow residents with application to anesthesia programs who had 2 DUIs.

i have denoted myself pre-medical because that is my next step in life...granted, this designation may last a couple of years but i will be debt free when i get in and have a job when i get in if it all goes according to plan.

i am not trying to hang with the cool kids on the playground. I find the topics on here entertaining at the very least and often intellectually stimulating. No other board offers this.

Proclivity, I personally don't care if you stay. But don't crap where you eat. If we say that MDA is offensive, it is. Period. You obviously don't know enough to realize it. There is a lot of history behind that term that was invented by CRNAs to diminish the anesthesiologist's training. Stay if you like, but don't stir up trouble. I personally wish you well on your med school application.

Acronym? Don't need one.

If you're referring to a physician who is an anesthesiologist, who can use any number of terms: doc, MD, DO, attending, hell, even "anesthesiologist."

Not everything is a conspiracy, but nurses trying to lower physicians with the term "MD anesthetist" is close.

I always thought the A stood for anesthesiologist, as a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure it does. In an internet discussion forum it is easier to type MDA. I see docAs (?) refer to themselves as MDA, so I never knew it was offensive. I'm not saying this to troll, as a matter of fact I'm not too concerned with the politics, but it appears that docAs are more concerned with CRNAs than CRNAs are with docAs. There are far more important things to be concerned about. I'm a drug rep and I get called a drug dealer, doesn't bother me (in person). I'm still doing my job and getting paid; that's what is important. Although I can see how it can be "fun" to go on about being at a war with the nurses (for people who like that kind of stuff). Everybody knows doctors know their stuff and are the crap, why do some of you feel like you have to defend that?

You CLEARLY don't understand this issue - let it go.

I am not trying to raise a ruckus and i am not trying to offend anyone and i am not siding with the CRNAs.

Aw, c'mon - don't sell yourself short - sure you are.

It appears I was mistaken about your true intentions. I now see that you are here to stir up trouble. I will file you alongside rmh. Goodbye.

my intentions have not changed since i started here. I am still seeking an answer to the question of why the acronym is so insulting. I'll ask a couple of anesthesiologists on the unit if i have to. I work two 12s today and tomorrow.

I'm just looking to understand why the acronym is such an insult. I jumped on plankton preemptively and i apologize for that.

It has been explained to you and you still don't get it. Just drop it and realize that you are in absolutely no position to jump on anyone, especially an attending anesthesiologist. Although, I encourage you to try doing this in person while you work in the unit. Talk to the anesthesiologist like you talked to plankton and report back what happens.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I don't? Who are you? What do I need to let go? From what I can tell, you are much more concerned about this than I am, so maybe you need to let it go. You clearly don't understand that this is petty.

Do what you do and do it well, focus on what is important. Spend less time telling people to "drop it" (again, who are YOU?) and more time worrying about yourself. You can't control what other people say/think, and any attempt to do so is only a waste of your time.

Who am I? I am someone who has taken the MCAT. I am someone without a DUI. I am someone who got into and graduated medical school. I am someone who matched in anesthesiology. More importantly I am someone with ONE screen name.

Now who are YOU? You are a troll with multiple screen names. You are a person pretending to be a pre-med/drug rep/etc. You are a person who is too stupid to remember which screen name goes with which lie. But most likely... you are a CRNA who has been repeatedly kicked off of this site. Bye Bye Troll.

badgas, I was referring to JWK (respnding to his let it go comment). I am not a pre-med, and never claimed to be. What are you babbling about?

Everything is a conspiracy. Save your energy for something more positive. You are paranoid/delusional. I seriously hope your thoughts return to reality.
