Hi! I'm thinking of applying to Auburn, but my university does not offer an animal nutrition course, so I am trying to find one online. I called Auburn earlier today to ask them if they specifically recommended any online programs, and they mentioned Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, North Carolina, and Purdue, but they also said that there are definitely more programs out there that they just don't know of.

Unfortunately, I looked up all of the schools they mentioned, and to my knowledge it seems as if all of them have specific start/stop dates for their online courses (which I've missed); I would much rather do a program that is self-paced so I can start it now and get done before the end of the summer. Does anyone know of online course programs for animal nutrition that are self-paced/does anyone have any advice? (Worst case scenario I can take an online program that's a "fall term" program but I would rather not have to do that on top of all my other courses when I'm back at school.) Many thanks!

Not sure where you were looking, but unless they’ve changed it since February, Oklahoma state’s independent study/online animal nutrition course is start and stop whenever you want. It’s reasonably priced and isn’t terrible. Definitely picky questions on tests, but not too bad.
Not sure if you’d be able to fully finish it by the end of the summer, but you would probably be close if you didn’t finish. First assignment you have to get back before you can submit more and then you can submit 3(?) every 7 days. There’s something like 15 assignments (but don’t quote me on that number) and 5? exams that need to be proctored (examity is an option for online proctoring but costs money, but you can take an exam at 11 pm if you really want)

To be honest, of all the schools that I was looking at Oklahoma's website was giving the most difficulty - I could see courses but not how to select them or anything like that. I'll take a closer look/call them up tomorrow if I can't find anything else on my own.

Also, (sorry if this is somewhat off the topic of the thread but I have no experience with online courses), how does proctoring work for online courses/is there a way where I don't have to pay more money?

Thanks for the help!

You don’t register for them online, you print out the registration form and send it in. And then if you’re paying by card you call the office and give them your cc info.
And proctoring for online courses through OK State, specifically, you can either find an in person proctor or use Examity. It’s $15 per exam I think if you schedule more than 24h in advance. For in person they suggest finding a person at your college (I don’t remember if they have to be a specific person at your college) or a librarian or a couple other options. I couldn’t find one of those so I emailed and asked if one of the other orthodontists at my dads work or the office manager could proctor me (you can’t use a family memeber) and both were fine options and wouldn’t have cost me any money, but for the convenience of being able to take it whenever and not have to wait for the exam to get mailed to my proctor and back to the school, I sucked it up and paid the extra money to do it online. Online with examity, they just have your webcam and mic on to make sure you’re not cheating or getting help from anyone (no ones allowed to be in the room at any point in time when you’re taking it)

Oh ok! That all makes a lot more sense. This was very helpful, thank you so much!
I took the course through Oklahoma and they were very helpful over the phone. I just called them up and gave them my information and they signed me up for the class over the phone. Like the other person said, the tests are pretty specific question wise so make sure you read through the workbook and you'll do great.
