A question that I just read in qbank explained that someone who is deficient in vitamin K should have a prolonged PT time but a normal PTT. WTF? Doesn't warfarin tx (and hence vitamin K deficiency) cause both PT and PTT to be prolonged? I do remember hearing somewhere that you measure warfarin with PT/INR is because factor VII is affected earlier than some of the other factors, but this seems a bit far fetched.... i suppose nothing is too far fetched for qbank. but still i would think that both measurements should be long. Anyone have any thoughts? Freakin' qbank 😎

I think the key is that they are defecient in Vitamen K as opposed to on Warfarin therapy. But then again factor X is a vitamen K dependent factor and is part of the final common pathway so you would think both are prolongued. I'm finding that Qbank has a lot of these off the wall questions.
