Hey,

I have another dentistry vs. medicine question:

Which one involves more hands on work?

By hands on, I mean doing work with hands...touching patients doesn't count (thats just creepy). For example, doing wax ups of teeth counts, but escorting a patient to the chair doesn't.

Now obviously, since meds has more surgical positions, it would technically be so, so lets exclude Oral Surgery and the surgical specialties. I'm particularly interested in either general dentistry, perio or IM, so which one would be more hands on in terms of:

General vs IM specialist. ?
perio vs. IM specialist?

thanks!

:laugh:Cooks use their hands all the time. No, but seriously this is a weird question b/c in what profession do you not use your hands (w/ the exception of movie critics) a lot.

You like doing things with your hands? I take it you play with yourself alot.

To try and answer that question, dentists of course.

wow you're funny (not). What do you want me to say? I gave a specific example of what counts as hands on. I guess to narrow it further I mean who does more procedures such as waxing, and less of just diagnosing?

This seems sort of intuitive (obvious). In which of the listed professions do you hold a handpiece or scalar all day?

I thought it was kinda funny. To answer your question, clearly dentistry if you are comparing to internal medicine only. MD's mostly diagnose and treat without much hands on ability. In any case, you should spend some time shadowing before you make a decision.

You excluded surgeons, which is strange, because you are excluding all of the "hands on" medical professions.

Depends on what kind of movies.:laugh:
