My advisors told me to wait since MSPE's don't get released until October 1st and many programs won't look at apps before then but I don't know if that is sound advice.

Please help.

This depends entirely on the specialty. I received about half of my interviews prior to MSPE's being released, as did my friends in IM. The surgical specialties seem to wait more until after the MSPEs are released.

In general, I would not wait. Programs that would consider you based on your S1 but want to see your S2 will probably just hold your application for review. Programs that reject you outright probably would do so with S2. And it's rare for someone with a poor S1 to end up with a stellar S2.
