Have any August MCAT'ers been calling your schools for interview status? I'm wondering if I should do a status check at the schools I haven't heard a peep from. Been complete at most of them for some time now. I'm starting to get paranoid that the rejections/invites have been lost in the mail/e-world.

Has anyone called these recently?

Albany
SUNY Stony Brook
SUNY Downstate
Temple
AECOM
Drexel
Rosalind Franklin
BU
Jefferson
MCW

It's not that i'm lazy, I just don't want to saddle them with more status checks.

well, from what i hear you can't call temple. they will chew you up and spit you out.

i am waiting to hear form a lot of those schools as well.
the silence makes me sad.

Temple is angry! Ok, not angry, misunderstood. Don't call them.
People say RFU is friendly, Drexel is allegedly friendly (ask rayhan), and BU just wants your money. Can't tell you about the other schools. Why don't you call and find out for the rest of us?

I'm not asking for anyone to call for me. I'm trying to reduce the call volume, so i'll hang out here and wait for all who have already called, pre-my thread. 😀

Can you blame me for trying?

everyday is an empty day at my mailbox!

and i find that calling is more depressing than staring out the front room window with eyes as big as saucers, with a gaze ever so intently fixed upon the mail box (much like the way my cats watch birds and squirrels) watching for the mailman to magically appear with, yes, that's right, junk mail, bills and MAC WORLD magazines for my husband. my husband gets SO much stuff from a school that is DESPERATELY trying to get him to enroll (Illinois Institute of Technology, IIT for short...not to be confused with ITT) and i get nothing! :scared:

While I'm still constantly checking email and running to the mailbox as soon as the postman arrives, I have also called a few of these schools so now I'm not quite as obsessive...

Temple: I wouldn't recommend calling; they will just tell you to check online.

Drexel: The admissions staff is friendly when you call, but they ask that you email to check on your status... When I still hadn't heard back via email a week later, I called. Ironically, later that day I received my status update via email.

BU: The admissions staff will take your call, but personally I didn't really learn anything new.... "Your application is complete, blah blah blah"

Jefferson: They will tell you to check online.

Hope this helps!

And so today is another day, a week day, during which I could possibly receive a phone call from Loyola (most likely not as I called yesterday and Matt said I was still in line to be reviewed), I might see a change on my Rush or UIC status pages (highly doubt it, still waiting for review here too). Alternatively, I may get something in the mailbox that could make or break my day. Or not. The latter is much more likely! (Currently banging head on desk)

Timmy, you crack me up. I called Loyola and mine is under review right now. Should be getting rejected shortly. Ahhhh, I love the holidays!

As you can see from the Wall of Shame, when I called RFU they were very nice when they told me I was a big reject. So far, I am the only person to receive this wonderful news and I am handling the responsibility of being the only rejet in this forum in a non-trivial way.

They seriously don't know what they are missing! If I end up going there without you gdbaby I shall have to cry! That is why we must hold out hope for Loyola, so we can all be ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY! I am kicking myself in the butt for not applying to Iowa 😉

I almost applied to Colorado, but that is a pipe dream out of state! One of the surgeons I work with went there and he said I should not waste my time...they only take the "WICHE" states...unless you are a freaking genius with a 43 MCAT and a 4.0....that brings me to a point I have been pondering....have you noticed profiles that state the MCAT score is >41? How can this be when the AAMC MCAT data states that of the 66,000 people who took the MCAT in April/August of 2005 0.1% achieved a 41...that is only 66 people, right? MOREOVER, ZERO people achieving a score of 42 or greater.....there, I feel better!

Significant figures, timmy. 0.0% could be as much as 18 people, or something like that. Who likes candy?

but still, 18 people?

what kind of candy? sugar is evil!

I wouldn't be surprised if it's less than 18.... QofQuimica called and asked if anyone has got above her 43 and the answer from the AAMC was 'No'. 43 is the highest anyone has received. Ever.
Candy is delicious is many of it's forms, let's not deceive ourselves. Godiva keeps emailing me to get me to buy these but only an arabian oil sheik can afford that. That's obscenely expensive for chocolate. But they look so delicious and colourful... sigh. The Oompa Loompas worked double time on those.

my dermatologist was old school, he's retired now 🙁 but he was one of those firm believers that what you eat causes acne, and he used to tell me to buy Godiva chocolates, so i wouldn't over do it...at that price, who could eat more than 1 every 3 years?

sure he could afford Godiva, he was a doc and he lived/practiced in Oak Park 😉

it's not the chocolate that kills your face, though, IT'S THE STRESS LEVEL!!!!

well, my snail mail box was void of med school related materials, but my email contained one bright ray of hope! it was not an invite to interview or an acceptance or any such thing, but it did bring me a HUGE warm fuzzy!

it was a very kind email from the second person who interviewed me recently, she was SO NICE! if the whole faculty is like her (which from what i saw and what i heard) i believe this to be true, i would love to go there! she was just keeping in touch, how nice! it made a craptastic day a lot better!

Today no mail, no email, and no phone calls. I need to look to make sure I am not registered dead.

Geez come on people, holllaa.

I called Albany to ask them if they would accept updates or fall transcripts, and they told me I was rejected. Over the phone. Ouch. Downstate also rejected me. Ros. Franklin told me I'm still on possible interview. But they're really nice there.

Has anyone called these recently?

Albany- got rejected
SUNY Stony Brook- didnt apply
SUNY Downstate- was put on hold a week after august scores came out
Temple- no idea whats going. lady at temple is so nasty/mean. i think i will withdraw from temple. some people at schools need to realize that that the students make the school. and if there is that nasty lady at temple, there is bound to be more like her at that school. i am withdrawing from temple bc of her and because i dont want to ever encounter those nasty people if i had a choice of med school atmosphere.
AECOM- didnt apply
Drexel- didnt hear squat. dean told me all august mcaters should hear back within 3 weeks. its been 2 months already and haven't heard squat.
Rosalind Franklin- was actually put on interview pool 2 weeks BEFORE aug mcat scores came out.
BU- rejected
Jefferson - no idea. but they avg mcat scores... which means my avg would be like a 24 mcat.... sucks and i will get rejected.
MCW- did not apply

needless to say, u august mcaters should not worry. i was an august mcater and am doing well in the cycle.

ive already been accepted. plus, i have been interviewed twice at my top choice school. still waiting to hear back from them aronud christmas time...

I too find the phone calls extremely depressing. Some of the schools just give off this feeling of unapproachability...sort of like "how dare you call to check on your status? You should fall prostrate and pray to your God for the divine gift of an interview"

However, I have found that making at least 1 round of phone calls is helpful and really necessary -- I've had 2 schools with mistakes in my app that I cleared up over the phone, and another school that gave me an interview on the spot when I called.

I also think the schools admissions offices are all grinding to a halt right about now, and probably won't get back in gear until the new year.

Do you think our files are in a pile sitting somewhere untouched because they haven't reviewed them yet?

I think the "unreviewed, but complete" is not necessarily true. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Godiva are a buck of ****-ers. Those are made by Norman Love. Go to his website and buy the exact same thing. Much cheaper. About a dollar per piece cheaper. http://www.normanloveconfections.com/boxes.htm

Now i've wondered about that...if calling means you're showing interest in the school etc. I know i'm complete at all the schools, so I would just be calling for status checks, and that may hurt my app. (well deff. wont help).
