Howdy! I am currently a graduate student at a large state school in Texas, finishing up a Master's in Child Development. I have a 3.9 in my grad program (yeah, I know, all programs inflate grades...), and I'm doing a research thesis on family functioning with children with chronic illness. My undergrad degree was in English, with a GPA of 3.45 or so. I volunteered 450 hours for a pediatric surgery service in Houston, and it's really made me recognize that I want to go to medical school. I'm looking at 2 year post-bacc programs, simply because I want to take a few classes at first to make sure I can handle the pressure of science coursework.

So, the question is, where should I look at applying? I've done a lot of looking through these forums, and Harvard looks like a good fit, but I would like to have a bit more support from the program than simply "send us the money and good luck!". If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Most programs that are famous for their intensive support are 1 year in length -- the hand-holding comes along with the expectation that you'll need it due to a heavy courseload. Drexel offers a 2-year program, I believe, and I think I've heard good things about their advising. Also, I think a linkage to their medical school might be available.
