Hey guys....

I applied this cycle, and have a couple of interviews (LECOM-B, NOVA, TOURO NV) but I'm looking into getting into TOURO-NV or maybe Western-Pomona(DREAM).

Anyways, my gpa is a 3.35 cumulative, 3.3 science... graduated out of a UC.
60 hours shadowing (MD's)
240 hours CCE
450 hours research assistant (environmental toxicology lab)
300 hours nonprofit cancer literature research

I took the MCAT last year: 27Q (10PS 8V 9BS)
Retook the MCAT this year: 28R (11PS, 7V!!!!, 10BS)

When I retook the MCAT I was holding onto a job (had to keep job b/c neither of parents could work) and taking care of my mom (NSCLC stage IV). I'm not looking for an excuse or anything but do you think I should start studying (AGAIN><) for the dreaded mcat?

Thanks for the advice all.

I wouldn't. Verbal is one of the sections that isn't easily raised without immense practice. If one of your other sections was lower, I'd say go for it, but I think you're quite the average D.O. applicant and wouldn't risk getting a lower score.

I agree. If you already have an interview invite at Touro-Nevada I think you should have a pretty fair shake at acceptance..Start prepping for your interview.

At 28R you're basically already above the average DO applicant in terms of MCAT score. Extracurriculars are a dime a dozen but yours are genuinely interesting - especially the toxicology lab. Your GPA is fine for DO school and you have nothing to worry about there.

I would just breathe! I got a 25P and with a high GPA and a boat load of extra-curriculars... I'm definitely not retaking. I can't see any reason why you should.

Thanks guys!
I was really worried about having to retake it haha... I think since I've taken it things have gotten more stressful so I'm not sure if I'd do better anyways.. sucks cuz i was really shooting for a 30+ was hitting 27-33 on practice tests and usually 9's on verbals

Don't sweat it, your stats are fine. You're always going to score lower on your actual MCAT than your practice MCAT, simply for the sheer nerves of it. You're more likely to doubt yourself. I was scoring consistently at 37-41 for my practice MCATs, but ended up with a 32. It seems to be a pretty common occurrence.

As others have said, focus on your interview skills. If you feel so strongly about Western, send them a letter of interest in a few months' time.

Yopu have nothing to worry about. Quit fussing and good luck on your interviews.

Don't give up hope for WesternU yet, they interview pretty later until Feb/March in the cycle. Try update letters occasionally though the cycle if you haven't received an interview invite for them yet, that'll remind them that you're still interested.

Hi thanks for the advice. When you mean update letters, do you mean like letters of recommendation? or letters stating that im genuinely interested in their program?

I meant letters of interest. However, those letters have more impact if you also have updates to give them (research, new job projects, grades, etc.)

In-the-area e-mails work as well, as that could nudge schools to grant you an interview if they were thinking about granting you one in the first place. I got two of my interviews at MD schools that way.

Awesome, yeah I will definitely do that. Knowing that Western schedules interviews late really puts me at ease knowing that they havent completely rejected me haha.

I'll send them updates periodically. Do you think its best to email or call in?

haha, well i'm glad then. 🙂 I just needed some reassurance because I really wanna get in this cycle.

Thanks for the wishes
