Inspired by a post in that oaklandguy thread that got locked.

Who here does things that are so amazingly nerdy you hardly want to admit them... but will because it's awesome?!

I played Dungeons and Dragons for a long time. 😱😱😱 I don't have the time anymore, but I thought I'd start of the thread with THE heavy-hitter of nerdiness.

not gonna lie, was a GIANT fan of buffy while in HS. also, not quite as geeky but i was once a top 20 ranked madden player. yeah. that took commitment.

TREKKIES REPRESENT! 😀

used to spend a LOT of time playing counterstrike in college, with clans, leagues and such.

You guys think being a clan leader counts as leadership? It's actually pretty hard to keep a bunch of l33t teenagers in line.

I unfortunately have to take credit for making the dungeons and dragons reference in the other thread  (Disclaimer: I didn't mean to offend anyone who plays the game, there is nothing wrong with playing dungeons and dragons whatsoever)

As for the geekier phases that I have gone through, I played my share of Magic: The Gathering in high school. I also got to the rank of Colonel on Xbox Live for Halo 3 because we played all the time in sophomore year of college when it came out (I know that someone will come on here and say that colonel is nothing and how they were a general, but colonel was still a serious time commitment - I wasn't that good). Now I'd have to say my geekier tendencies are pretty much limited to checking this forum once a day or so. Oh and my roommate and I have our own dynasty on NCAA 10. We each have our own teams that we recruit for and we play all of our teams games (with the other person playing as the other team).

I still think Magic: the gathering is the pimpest game ever. lol the idea of making your own deck is just sweet. Altho it seems like the cards just suck now tho. w/e it was a great part of my childhood

I do a little home chemistry.

i polish my silver jewelry using aluminum foil, baking soda, boiling water, and a little bit of salt to increase the conductivity of the solution 😀

does it count as geeky if i'd choose to stay home and watch TV and drink a beer over going out any day?

If it involves anything related to etoh with a hoppy taste :laugh:...SCORE!!!!!!!

If it involves anything else....FAIL!!! no wait...EPIC FAIL!!!!!:meanie::meanie:

Epic fail it is, but idk, tollens tests, hho balloons, halolgenating random crap, etc. is just fun!! 😍😍😍

Was a huge MtG player when I was younger. Went to the Junior Super Series and won a $1,000 scholarship... some lucky kid got a $20,000 scholarship by winning that tournament. 😱

Ya, did JSS too; made it twice, but never did well enough at the main tournament to get anything. Still, the $2k for just winning the qualifiers was nice 🙂

Made it to the actual US Nationals once in college, and that's what I put on my AMCAS.

[/nerdiness]

im gonna go to the star wars symphony in TWA this saturday...lol.. i guess thats nerdy

Call of Duty.

wooot.

There used to be this group of medieval reenactors that met on Sundays on our campus in one of our large green spaces. They would get together, put on armor, grab swords (I'm sure they were blunt), and just have duels. I guess they were a community group, but there were people from campus that participated. My girlfriend always said I was nerdy because I thought it would have been neat to go out there and fight someone in armor with shields and swords, haha. I regret never trying it. Who wouldn't want to beat down some guy in armor? lol

Where did you play your JSS and US Nationals at? I was at Kansas City many years back.

lol I've done that, minus the armor. Just foam swords and stuff. Amazingly fun. Haven't done that in years, either.

What else... I was addicted to an MMO for a while in hs and also played a couple of different card games at the time, too.

I spent my spring breaks in high school at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia using a government owned radio-telescope as part of the SETI project (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence). No joke. The D&D folks thought I was too dorky....the debate club guys let me hang around their room after school sometimes, but not when the band girls came to visit...

...I wore a sundial watch in highschool...

I had to break up a fight after college when two co-workers got into a shoving match about whether the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) or the Renaissance Festival was more authentic middle ages re-enactments....grown men of reproductive age...well, maybe only academically:laugh:!
