Given your work ethic to achieve that GPA I think you can certainly do better than 19L!! Take the MCAT again on August and try to stay awake during the test 😉

MS 4 PCOM

what was the 8th semester like or did you graduate early?

what is your major?

science gpa?

did you take all prereqs before mcat??

My 8th semester was crazy. I worked as a resident assistant, worked an information desk, took Organic II, Physics II, and took a Kaplan course to prepare for the MCAT. I am two classes short of finishing my degree (B.S. Biology). Yea, I took all the prerequisites. I know the majority of the content cold. I am just horrible at standardized tests. As for my science GPA, I have not calculated that yet. But I got an A in all my science class except for one B. If you don't think I should apply, what material would you recommend that I use to study? My plan is to study all my Kaplan books again within two weeks. Take AAMC tests 3R-8R for the remainder of the time and focus on weak areas. I want to buy the Examkrackers Audio Osmosis, but I don't have a $100 something dollars to pay for that. Any feedback is appreciated.

I would use the EK review books and aamc tests predominately, 1001 books might be good for you also in your weak areas. The 1001 bio is really good...This was what I used entirely the first time and did fine on the test with being a marginally smart person 😉

Nothing is more important than the MCAT for getting an admission to med school. If you need to beg, borrow, steal, put it on your credit card! to pay for adequete review I would go for it because honestly it's a drop in the bucket compared to what you'll most likely be in debt in 4 or 5 more years.

Good luck!!

Oh, also...You didn't give your breakdown but if your verbal was weak <8-9 I would get for sure the EK 101 verbals; they are the best simulation of the real thing and will help you with picking out the right answer and your timing.

Try all the DO schools. I feel you can get in. 🙂

My breakdown:

PS: 6
VR:7
BS:6

I strongly believe that you can get in, just apply to many places and see what happends.

Great experiences, great GPA, but with that MCAT score you have a better chance of picking up Angelina Jolie at your local bar. The good other things can off-set a low MCAT score usually but I seriously doubt it will off-set a 19. My opinion is that you need to retake it in August if you want to apply to medical school. Want a number to shoot for? Shoot for a 45 and hope for something much better than a 19. Good luck

People on here can be too nice. Too "Pollyanna".

I'll try to avoid being a dick to offset them. It's tempting and please realize that you did ask.

I think your chances are slim. You need to concentrate on retaking.

There are people on this site with 15s in a single subject. They're insane freaks, but they're out there. Is it realistic to want to get into school with 4 points more on all three sections than they had on one? Should you want to? This might have strayed into rudeness, but I thought it might focus on the incredible disparity and help bring it into focus for you in the context of you asking for feedback.

I agree completely with Moose that people on here can be too nice sometimes, and too evil at other times lol. Being nice when giving this kind of advice is, in reality, being cruel. I am not being mean but I am trying to help the OP to the best of my ability.

I know what you must be feeling like. I have maintained a 4.0 over the past three years since returning to school and I only scored a 22. Jeez. Talking 'bout a kick in the nutts. :meanie:

22? hey thats wut i got my first time too. but i had a 3.2 gpa. im an electrical engineer, and didnt study for the mcat before i took it. maybe you could do the same and get a 22?? i figured since i did the same on the gre, and scored so high that i got into mensa, maybe it would work here hehe

However, I did worse...let me know what you decided and how it turned out.

you have a chance...prolly at the lower tier schools but just retake the mcat..get at least a 24..and your golden

Oh, I forgot that I had posted this in the early summer. As an update, I studied my butt off and got up to 23M for the August MCAT. I currently hold an acceptance to the lovely school of WVSOM and possibly one to Pikeville. Although I really love WVSOM, if I get accepted to Pikeville, I'm trying to determine which school Pikeville is so cheap compared to WVSOM, but I really want to attend WVSOM. I guess I shouldn't let money be an issue, but it is always an issue.

Nice job on the WVSOM acceptance. I might see you there.

1) Congrats become a good & great Doctor.
2) Of course, money is a valid concern.
