Does anyone know how common pneumococcus resistance to penicillin is. I read somewhere in my reviews that it is actually very common. Also one of our lecturers this year told us that azithromycin is more or less the best drug for pneumonia in acual practice. But Qbank says penicillin is still DOC and resistance is still rare. Is that accurate?

For the boards, assume that Pen G is the best treatment for strep pneumo, syphilis, and actinomyces israelii unless you are told otherwise. I think resistance is becoming more common, as is the case with most drugs, but it seems that in most questions the major issue is whether or not a patient is hypersensitive to penicillins...
