Has anyone heard of a PA or a PA themselves who has entered/completed the 3 year continuous program for medical school at the University of Health Sciences Antigua. I am still very much so considering the US med school route but I would like to hear what the deal is with the Antigua 3 year program. Thanks. 😉

I have not, but have a take here.

One more year is nothing. These are really not calender years, but acedemic years. I know picking straws here--but really, it is nothing in the scope of things.

as a PA in med school---I dont care for all the time off. 3 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks spring--summer vacation after year one---as an older student--I say lets get rolling!!!

Also, it is a MUST that a med school be at least three years in length for eligability to sit for usmle.

I guess my point is---dont let the three year thing play even a fraction of what froms you opinion of what/when and where to go to med school

The question isn't "can I get an MD" but more

"Can I obtain a residency after finishing medical school" and "can I get a full unrestricted licensure?"

Sure - you can get an MD in 3 years with some nice advance standing - but can you take the USMLE? Will a residency in the area you want in the field you want take you? And will the state where you want to practice give you a license for taking a shortcut in medical school? And will hospitals give you the necessary priviledges?

So in the end, if you don't do a residency, or don't get state licensure - what was the purpose of the MD? So you can still be a PA (but be called doctor even though your degree is from an unaccredited school and you are not licensed to practice medicine).

Yes....these are all things which made me decide against going to one of those schools. I was just trying to see if anyone has actually done it. The school boasts that they have graduates practicing in the US and many students in residency. Yet on many websites there are many that say you probably can't get a license or practice in all states etc. In order to avoid any issues like that I personally have decided to apply to US schools. Just wondering if anyone had gone there or is going there.

Exactly. I dont think it is really a question of how long the program is.. but more; what is the quality of the program.

If you want to get an MD in 3 years.. then apply to McMaster in Canada! Its 3 years long and its LCME accredited.

Good luck to you.

yeah skip the 3 year antigua program- it's bull****. i spoke to a couple grads (who were PA's) and they said they made a mistake in going that route. sure they got back to the states, but are very restricted with where they could practice (think along the lines of Bucksnort Tennessee) and no one got anything other than family practice.

Americans rarely get in there.
