any 2005 applicants know they are deferring for a year after they get accepted?

I'm planning on deferring for a year, regardless of where I end up, to just relax, enjoy myself and work at an interesting project at a clinical lab.

is anyone else in the same position as me?

what are you guys planning on doing and have you notified the school yet?

I think deferring is the way to go for taking a year off since we don't have to apply during the year-off process.

Do schools require some sort of application or essay regarding deferral?

Can you apply to other schools during that year if you wanted to?

I did the opposite, took a year off after graduating and then applied (currently) and really regret it. While I enjoy research, I really miss being a student and dont think a break was as needed as I thought. In one respect, I guess I may be more motivated having seen what the "real world" is like and how great being a student really is.

My advice is make sure that deferring is something you really want to do because it is a big change not having classes to challenge you, meet and interact with new people in, and occupy your time. I tend to feel bored and stagnant often.

You have to agree to not apply to other schools in order to obtain deferral in most(all?) cases.

i really want to defer - just hoping schools will let me. i think you have to send a letter to the dean of admissions in most cases, but as far as how willing different schools are to let you defer, i don't know - it's hard to get a straight answer from them about their actual policy. i know of a few that will pretty much always let you as long as you request it by a certain date, and others that really don't want you to unless you have some amazing reason. i just want to travel, hopefully work and take some language classes in europe since i never had time to study abroad during college. i think schools should be understanding and just let you defer if you want to - i've been in school basically since i was 4 years old, and it shouldn't make a difference to them whether i come next year or just take a year for myself first. anyway, that's my two cents.

i am taking an year off...hopefully I can get my MBA, travel around and take a break from studying science!!
