Hi SDNer's,

Anyone out there have a 3.0 GPA and are applying or have applied this year? Please let me know if you have gotten interviews or rejection letters. I have a 3.0 and would like to know my chances. Thank you!

Be prepared to be overlooked on the first pass unless you really really killed the DAT and even then there is that red flag.

I have 3.0 across the board and 21AA/22TS/23PAT. I applied to 24 schools and been rejected from ASDOH so far. I'm a California resident, and shooting for USC.

Wow 24 schools! That's the most I've seen so far :O

have sub 3.0 GPA from undergrad / 3.87 GPA from Masters
22 TS / 21 AA

have gotten 1 interview so far

also 2 rejections..

:xf::xf::xf::xf:

If you read my previous post, a friend of mine was at a 3.09 got rejected from NOVA, still waiting on the rest (BU, NYU, Trufts, UDM, Case, Howard, and Meharry)

What do you mean by first pass? Do you mean this season or do you think adcoms come back in the same season and look at you later once they have already decided not to invite you? That's the first time I have heard that.....anyone else have that experience?

/=He was saying that with a low GPA they wont even consider you, since a lot of other people have high GPA, high DATs and the ordinary good ECs, LOEs, etc. So you arent competitive, some schools might just throw it out from first glance...it seems that way since very very few 3.0s and sub 3.0s get interviews.

I'm saying that my hunch is that a lot of these pre-December interviews are going to cream of the crop peeps. I'm guessing that there's some internal formula that each school uses that combines GPA + DAT and numerically selects people and those applications for interview first. Once the dust settles, then they move down the list. It isn't so much having already been decided upon as it is haven't gotten to yet. Point is, you'll have to wait your turn and sometimes you get leap frogged for consideration by people in later batches who have better stats. You essentially have to hedge your bets that there are still spots for consideration once it is all said and done and your application finally makes it to the top of the list.

Not saying interviews/acceptance is not possible, but the cards are stacked against you.

Note: all speculation on my end.

3.04 oGPA AND 2.87 sGPA so im heavily crossing my fingers too.. 24AA 24TS 20PAT

wow a 24 AA is good. Im sure youll get a few interview. if only you put in like an half hour a day when you were in class....ud have a 3.70gpa atleast, ur clearly smart with that DAT.

I have a ~3.3 GPA, but science gpa was 3.18 or so according to AADSAS.

Zero interview/rejects so far.... but then again I told them I was going to retake the DAT... so that is probably why I was tossed in the back burner.

lol at half hour a day..idk if thats an insult or if youre serious  ..but thanks either way lol crossing my fingers :/

No lol not an insult. I meant you are smart, and a half hour a day of more studying youd have a much higher GPA. I was in a simlar boat, my GPA first year was a 2.70 then i added half hour a day, thats all, and my second year gpa was a 3.70. And each year it went up after that to a 4.0. Goodluck!

I'm sorry to hear about ASDOH. 🙁

Did you ever ask them why? If you don't mind me asking, how many community service hours did you have?

Best of luck with USC 🙂

About 700 hours of volunteering at dental offices and community service.

Thank you all for your reply. Has anyone looked into a post bac program? I graduated with a BA in biology and i have worked a dental office for over 7 years. I am looking into a masters in biology or in biomedical science.

App not competitive? Go to LECOM. You can learn dentistry after you graduate.

LECOM doesn't just take anyone. It ain't that easy.

why would you say this?!

LECOM has a great program and has a lot to offer. Unless you can defend what you said, I'll say you're definitely clueless about LECOM.

@ DunStopBelievin...I want to ask you some questions...can you msg me at [email protected]. I just have some questions that I want to ask you personally.

Can anyone continue this thread and add if any interviews with low 2.9-3.1 GPA...Thanks

My overall gpa is 3.0.... 2 interviews so far. However my science and bcp gpa are higher.

Do you mind sharing where you got interviews?

Do youhave good extracurriculars?

I'd rather not say, at least not until Dec 3rd. I'm a non traditional student though, I think I have decent ECs, and I applied to 17 schools.

No worries! I completely understand! I'm pulling for you to get into at least one school on Dec 1st. You're one of the people that gives people like me hope. 😀

The reason I was wondering was because I'd probably like to definitely make sure to include the schools you interviewed at in my app cycle next year. I mean, I know we're not the same applicant, but if they're willing to look at you more holistically, then what's to say they wouldn't do the same for me or anyone else with a low GPA?

Btw, did you do a breakdown of your awesome DAT scores? I'll look for it, but if not then I may be in touch via PM because I'm about to start studying for my DAT. :scared:

Bump, curious to know if anyone else overcame their low GPA.

applied to 10 schools rejected from 5, 2 interviews granted only attended one. 1 acceptance. The rest I'm guessing will be rejections.

BCP: 3.01
sGPA: 3.16 ??
DAT: 3rd attempt AA/TS 18
nontraditional student

The Midwesterns initially rejected me in July (didn't even give me a secondary) because my BCP was low. Now, after Academic Update, they un-rejected me! I've received 6 interviews (3 accepted, 1 rejected, 1 withdraw, 1 unheard), and 10-15 rejections (I forgot the count) from schools I haven't interviewed at.

Big congrats Jojo. That really is an impressive feat.

Haha nice. I take it they put you on the waitlist. Can you post up the details of GPA/DAT and EC?

Applied really late. 10 schools. Withdrew from 2. 1interview, 2 re-review in jan (already february with no response), the rest rejections.
gpa after academic update:
3.12 bcp, ogpa 3.00 dat22aa/23ts/22pat
Most likely reapply this year again.

why did u withdraw?

Because even the best case scenario I was accepted to either one of them, I wouldn't be able to afford to attend those schools.

non traditional student here, science gpa 2.8, 3 interviews and waiting on 10 more schools but probably unlikely at this point. you always got a shot!

2.9 science gpa. around a 3.3 overall gpa. Don't remember my exact DAT scores but all between 20-22 (with the exception of RC, which I think was around 24).

Applied 14 schools, 3 interviews, 1 waitlist, 1 acceptance, didn't take the last interview (it came after I was already accepted and mentally committed to the school).
