I was just wondering if anyone from Texas has seen any activity on their "application staus" screen on TMDSAS? Has anyone's application been processed and forwarded to schools? Maybe we should keep a thread open for Texas applicants? Thanks y'all.

On this website, Texas applicants seem to be in the minority. I think there are handful of us out there, but not many.

HD.

No bubble herre to burst. Just curious about my fellow Texas applicants.

you want to know what your up against! Competion eh! just kidin

what would you like to know!

HD

HD, no competition-just excitement. I find myself "watching the clock" so to speak, in anticipation for the beginning of what will be for me my second application cycle. I noticed that AADSAS has already submitted some apps. to schools and am curious to see if there has been any activity so far at TMDSAS for anyone at SDN. Besides you and me, I believe Trypmo is from Texas, anyone else?

You rang? 😀

Actually, I've been "about to submit" my TMDSAS for about 3 weeks now, but I haven't gone through with it yet. I have to submit a residency questionnaire when I do, though, so I'm sure mine'll take longer to be processed than y'all's (wow, that really had two apostrophes).

Damned dissertation keeps taking up all my time. :meanie: 🙁
But really, I'll send in the app this week! Really!

Would like everyones opionion on this one, if your a second time applicant in Texas, are you more than likely to get in this year. better grades better DAT etc.

For the Texas applicants, it appears TMDSAS has begun sending applications to schools. Hooray!!

ARGH! I've gotta get off my butt!! :scared:

Trypmo, it is still early in the game, but, the earlier you submit the sooner the adcomm's can get the chance to invite you for an interview. SUBMIT. SUBMIT. SUBMIT.

hello!

really? i submitted my on june the 1st and there's no action yet. when did you send it off?

Hello Halitosis.
I submitted also on the 1st. When did you send in your money and pics? I believe that they process the apps. in the order in which they receive the money and pics. If yours is not processed already I am sure it will be very shortly. Good luck.

Hey Escarsega,
I sent in $$ and pic around 5/25 and they got it on 6/1. still, as of right now, tmdsas has not send to any school. well, thanks man, good luck to you too!

any of you guys know about stats for out of state applicants in TX? HOw much is considered being competetive ?

Last year 35 out-of-staters applied and 6 were accepted. There are approximately 220 spots between the three Texas schools, and 6 of those spots where filled with out of state applicants. Thats approximately a 3% acceptance rate for non-residents.

The stats usually have to be pretty darn good for non-residents, as well as the total application, which might explain why there are so few non-resident applicants each year......because they don't have much of a chance and they know it (numerically speaking). Therefore, most don't even bother filling out the TMDSAS in conjuction with AADSAS. At least thats what I think.

my1molar, here is (hopefully) the link contaning the info critterbug referenced in his post. Out of state applicants should look to have stats at least as high (realistically higher) as those shown for "accepted."

Hope this helps.

Officially submitted my application to TMDSAS today!! 👍

And now the waiting begins... 😴

DAT scores are automatically sent to TMDSAS when they are sent to any of its member schools, right?

Trypmo, I know you must be relieved to have your app in. Though, you are right about the waiting 🙁

Yes, if you indicated on your DAT application to have your test scores sent to any of the Texas schools, Prometric will automatically forward a copy to TMDSAS.

Good luck. Please update with any new activity. I will post any updates on my end.

Come on Texas schools, let me in.

Well, here's something small, at least, as far as activity. They've put on my status page that they've received the certification page, cheque in the right amount, and photos in the right quantity. Yay!

That was pretty fast, getting it up on the website the same day I delivered the papers -- I guess since it's early in the cycle they're not flooded yet!

TMDSAS, is really fast about processing the check and getting that updated on the web, where as aadsas is slow as molasses.

I just found out that one of my transcripts did not make it to either aadasas and tmdasas, so I had to call and bit#h at the transcript lady and tell her to send it again. what a headache.

Anybody called the schools lately to find out if there stuff has been sent?

THey just sent out the first 200 applications out. I wasn't in the stack, damn it. oh well

maybe on tuesday i will go out.

One week since they got my application documents, and no change on the status page since. Do they have to receive DAT score reports before they forward the application to the schools? It's been 3 weeks since I took the DAT and nothing's showing up yet.

I know it's too early to get worried, but I'm going a little nuts waiting, knowing my app is just sitting there not even being read. 🙁

I sent my application (everything minus DAT) on May 24th. It was processed last week and sent to all the schools.

Trypmo, TMDSAS will process your application in the order in which they received your signed certification, pics, and money. They will forward your application along with any supporting documents that they have received. I am sure that they have your DAT scores, but they wont update your status page until they process your app. Dont worry, your app. is in line and sure to processed soon.

On a side note, what motivated you to pursue dentistry? Where in Texas are you? Which school are most interested in?

I PM'd you.

I also emailed TMDSAS and asked a few things. The website says it's faster than trying to get through with a phone call. 😀

Update: Hmph. I got a very fast -- but very unsatisfactory -- response to my carefully crafted email. Guess I shouldn't've expected more!

What up fellas? Im a Texas resident as well....Applying for the 2nd year. Damn, you guys are on the ball in regards to getting the apps in on time. I will have mine in sometime within the next few days. Good luck...the waiting process is killer.

Good to see ya again Rezdawg! Welcome back to The Waiting Club. 😀

Received confirmation from TMDSAS on 28, June.

Received letter from Baylor today confirming receipt of my application.

Now the nerves are cranking up.

Wohoo!

(well, at least I think cranking nerves are better than waiting)

Hey, did you send in the Baylor secondary like immediately when you sent the TMDSAS stuff out (if so, you're more in the ball than I am)?

Take this for what it is, I think if you have the stats of at least 3.5 and 19 dat avg for texas schools then applying early allows you to get an interview a lot sooner. But what about those who don't have those stats, lets say you send it in early, schools get it then what. Do adcoms really look at your application to find some sort of glimpse of a dentist in your application. I doubt it, if you don't have the numbers for the first round you don't go to the second round, "Don't pass go and collect 200 dollars". So in the end does early mean better maybe if you have the numbers, otherwise sending it in is not neccessarily the best way. I think as long as you get it in a timely manner at least a couple of months before the deadline your okay. I'm not trying to discourage anyone who doesn't have the 3.5 and 19Dat, I am one of them as well. I just want to put a different perspective out there, see what people might say.

Well, I've heard that (at least for 1 TX school) when your app gets there, the numbers are evaluated and one of two things happens: (A) IF they're good enough they'll go into the "automatic interview" pile, whereas (B) if they're not quite up to par they'll be entered into a system with your stats AND then your app will be reviewed personally by the dean, who can also "override" your stats and put you in the "automatic interview" pile personally. At that point, if the dean doesn't pick your app, it goes into a heirarchical stack where it's continually compared to the rest of the incoming apps. Not sure what happens after that, though.

I think sending it in early always helps because at least for one school it will be reviewed by a real person fairly soon after it gets there!

👍
Good luck to everyone (I'm not using that clover smiley. (ickh.) but I'm thinking what it's meant to convey 😀)

hey Escarsega
anymore interview invitations?

ANYONE else besides Escarsega getting interviews from san antonio, houston, or baylor??

No other invites yet. But, it is still so early in the game. I am hoping to hear from Baylor and Houston by mid to late August. However, I am willing to wait for as long as necessary.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

I re submitted my application for the 2005 cycle on June 20, and from the converstation I had with TMDSAS, it suppose to go out some time this week.

I have an interview with UT San Antonio next month. My DAT scores (AA 18) and GPA (overall 3.4, science 3.6) are average for those who are concerned.

Good luck guys. Waiting for TMDSAS was no fun. I'm a student at UT Houston. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see all of you interview here this fall.

Hey Shaka and Escarsega. How did SA notify you of the invite? Also, are either of you bilingual with Spanish?

Thanks,

bpenly

Hello bpenly, I was notified by mail approximately 4 weeks after they received my application. I consider myself bilingual, although not to level I would like. Spanish was my first language, but as I started school, I progressively spoke more and more english to the point at which I now struggle at times when communicating in spanish.

Have you applied yet? When? What schools?

SE

Thanks for the reply Escarsega. I applied 24 May to all three schools. My application was processed on 30 June. I haven't taken the DAT yet (August), but otherwise I consider myself a strong enough candidate for an interview. I am trying to gauge the strengths that other folks have who have been getting interviews.

I have a B.S. in Business (University of Wisconsin ? La Crosse) and have been in TX for about 6 years working for various companies in the software and defense industries. I took all my prerequisites at UT-Austin while working full-time because my wife was in graduate school. I recently left my job so I can take a year of all upper division science including one year each of biochemistry, microbiology, and physiology as the application cycle plays out. My GPA on the processed TMDSAS document is Overall=3.59 and Science=3.71. and I have gotten straight A's as a post-baccalaureate student. I have about 50 hours shadowing experience and was a volunteer driver prior to summer school for Meals on Wheels amongst several one time volunteer activities.

I was curious about SA because of the bilingual preference. I am not bilingual, but hopefully soon will be at least proficient once more. My wife just got her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics/Foreign Language Education and has been teaching medical (nursing) Spanish at UT-Austin. I would hate for the bilingual issue to knock me off some lists for interviews as I plan to remedy the situation prior to practicing dentistry.

-bpenly

Shaka. Thanks for the input. Given that it is a legitimate weakness for me, it is nice to know it won't be a single eliminating factor. I have been nervous about the bilingual issue for awhile because Spanish is incredibly important in the TX (and many other states) health care scene. My wife's nursing students have a mix of about 60/40 spanish to english speakers in their hospitals here in Austin and have found being mildly proficient in Spanish to be a huge boost to their ability to perform their jobs correctly.

When did your application get processed? Where do you go to school? Do you have any outstanding activities, experience, etc.?

bpenly
