Hey everyone- I just got back from the testing center, and ended up doing as bad as I thought... I'm really upset because I felt that I knew the information, but I totally choked when it came to the real thing. The truth is, I was so nervous during the test, I couldn't recall a lot of the information that I know I knew....this is such a bad feeling. I've wanted to be a dentist for so long, and I feel like the walls are caving in on me. I guess i'm going to cancel my app's, take it again after i graduate and try to get my applications in next year asap. I knew this was going to happen...thanks anyways to you guys for all your support. I hate standardized tests. The QR was impossible by the way.

Bio- 16
Gen Chem- 17
Orgo- 18
PAT- 18
RC- 17
QR- 14

Oh well, going back to colorado for Fall should bring up my spirits.

-Mike

P.S.
If you guys for some miraculous reason think i'm not screwed this time around, please let me know..although I doubt it. gpa-3.95.

p.s. (again)
obviously high gpa does not equal high dat. thanks, sorry. im angry.

Sorry to say, retake is needed.
What materials did you use and how long did you study (hours/days)?
Good luck

Yeah, I would say you need a retake.

What is your major? Did you take any practice tests? Topscore? Achiever? If so, can you post your scores? If you didn't maybe you should look into taking some practice tests. Maybe it would help with anxiety on the real DAT.

Also, maybe you need to evaulate your study materials.

I'm sorry it turned out this way. Goodluck next year!

First of all, thanks for posting your scores even though they weren't what you hoped you'd get. So was it pretty much your nerves that got to you? Was there alot of stuff that you didn't recognize? How much did you study and what did you use to prepare?

Main point is that 1 wrong answer on one q from all science sections would drop a score 3-4 units down so that menas you have to know sciences thoroughly --not detail oriented but mastering general concepts.
Good luck man, this is only first try that can help you study hard --sometimes it's useful for us to succeed , and BTW never give up .

Look on the bright side, now you know what to expect the second time around. Don't give up! You'll do great next time around. I have the same problem as you when it comes to nerves and exams. Good luck.:luck:

You should probably apply and see what happens... you might get into a private school but if you re-take and do 19+ you'll get into your state school most likely...its up to you

You need to be confident. Thats what helped me. I was as cool and as calm as if I was going to church on Sunday with my Grandmama during that test and I did fine...even without studying

sorry your test turned out this way. now that you've taken the test though it'll better prepare you for next time. i would suggest taking as many practice tests as possible. don't worry, if anything i think this will motivate you to work harder and you'll do great next time. don't give up!

do you have any advice for the rest of us? i too get nervous during exams, so I'm hoping it doesn't hurt me this upcoming week. Anything you would change about how you went about studying, what you did before the test?

I would recommend a retake, but clearly you know your stuff!
Don't let your nerves get the best of you, because if that is your only or biggest issue you need to find a way to reassure yourself calmly. Let your confidence and desire to be dentist lead you into that exam!!

Bummer man were you at all confident before b/c you said you knew this would happen like how were your practice tests? And maybe next time you can use more resources to study from. Good luck
