Hello everyone,

I've been lurking around this forum for a while, but this is my first post. A little background: I just graduated from high school and will be attending UOP in Stockton next year because of their 4+3 Dental program. Though the program isn't technically considered accelerated, the almost guaranteed admission to the UOP dental school made my decision.

So...as I embark on my journey to become a DDS, I was wondering if any of you have any advice? Most of you have been in the same spot as me before, any tips/advice would be extremely appreciated! What to do/what not to do?

Btw, if anyone has gone through UOP's Pre-Dental program from Stockton to San Fran., please PM me. THANKS!

57 views? Come on, I know most of you have gone through your years at undergrad.

Any tips/words of advice are appreciated!

The best way to start a fun filled and productive day as a good citizen is to always eat a healthy breakfast. Something rich in breads and grains. And fruits are important too!

Its a cool thing if you think you cant get into any other dental schools, but you gotta keep in minds that 7 years there is a lot of money to be spending on your education. I literally only spent like 50,000 on my entire undergrad education (Tuition, room, food, entertainment, books... the whole thing, and I spent the last four years living in Hawaii!!!) Just make sure that you want to spend that much on all your schooling they estimate $45,000 a year just for undergrad. Extrapolate that
Undergrad @ 45000
total 180000
Dental @ 100,000
total 300,000
480,000 in debt is a ton
just work hard at a different undergrad and be less in debt later.... sorry I know its probably not what you wanted to hear but that I a lot of money your talking about.
Why not aim for their 2+3 program, thats $100,000 cheaper?

do they have a fraternity at your college that the "doctor type" students join??? if so, they probably have an "old test file" that will help you filter through what is important to study for a certain class and test. some professors are repetitive in the way they test and i have even had some tests that were identical--some profs you can't guess and pay attention to their test reviews. learn to filter through the information- think to yourself "is this gonna be on the test???" and make some friends to compare lecture notes. learn some memory tricks and cram those hard, so the minute you're handed a test turn it over on the back and write out all those pneumonics, formulas, etc you will need so you can refer back while taking the test---I called it a memory dump. I would make copies of organic chemistry study problems and take them just like i was taking a test. Figure out your test schedule and put it on a planner and figure out how many days it takes you for test preparation (time management). Your goal is to maintain that GPA to guarantee that slot in Dental School. If you do bad on a test, figure out why. Did you study enough?? I have studied so hard I would take whatever I was preparing for to the bathroom with me!!!! make the right friends who accel at academics. This is a stepping stone to the final goal.

just make sure dentistry is what you truly wanna do for the rest of your life.
