Hey you guys I am pretty new to this site and before I actually went through all the trouble of making an account I went through a couple posts and this site seems very helpful. To tell a little bit about myself, I am a Cali resident, I started off poorly my 1st quarter and got a 2.589 but I have since brought it up to a 3.406 because of a drastic upward trend. It still sucks but with my new-found work ethic I am confident I can bring it up to a 3.7 before graduating college. Now going into my 2nd quarter as a sophomore I was wondering what kind of things I should focus on doing to make myself I competitive MD applicant.🙂

Consider some weekly nonmedical community service for a cause you care about that serves the needy.
Consider establishing some type of interaction with sick people through work, volunteering, or clinical research.
Look into research opportunities for the future (next summer maybe).
Read through the What are my Chances Forum for ideas for future involvement, but the above are the more important areas to consider for right now, as longevity in an activity is well-regarded. Just don't get too involved and let your grades suffer again.
