hi everyone, i'll be graduating next spring with a BS in biology and i'm planning to get a early start and apply in august this summer. i have a 3.268 gpa, 65% PCAT, 3 month of pharmacy tech experience in retail and 9 month of volunteering experience in hospital. what are my chances? :scared:

your chances are not good. if i were you, i'd apply VERY early, august is probably not soon enough, especially because whenever you plan on applying in august you end up applying at the end of september because unforseeable things always come up! so plan on applying even earlier than that.

also, apply broadly, obviously you want to go to school in your home state, but chances are that you won't really have much of a choice, if at all! however, don't be down on yourself, apply early and broadly... also keep your fingers crossed!

GOOD LUCK TO YA!

Your PCAT might be a bit low for some schools. Look at the average PCAT score for your desired schools. You may want to take it again. Getting a higher score on that will greater your chances.

Good luck! 🙂

did anyone out there got accepted this year with similar stats ?

Apply as early as possible, that will make a HUGE difference. Your PCAT is really unimpressive so you'd have a lot better chances if you retook that (but you probably already knew that 😉)

That PCAT is low and there is no stellar GPA to compensate. I would say most definitely retake the PCAT and apply early and broadly like others have suggested. Having a BS helps you but more and more applicants have a BS while applying. 3 months of pharm tech experience and 9 months of volunteering are good but nothing about that really stands out, no leadership roles or variety/longevity in volunteering really. 9 months at a hospital is good! but assuming you were in college 4 years, why no other volunteer activities? There could be plenty of reasons why, maybe you were busy but I am just trying to be straightforward with you and tell you nothing stands out, GPA is below average a little, PCAT is below average and volunteering/experience around average most likely.
You really can not change GPA right now or get in a lot of volunteering, although you could probably find some leadership volunteering roles around your community early this summer, youth center, organizing blood drive or something. The thing you can change is the PCAT, take it again and let it work for you, study your *** off and get a score that will make you competitive.
Writing great essays will be key as well, you need to find a way to make yourself stand out to the admission committee. The essay will give you a chance to do this, many on campus services can help you with your essays and maybe some professors.

It is always nice to know people got in with similar stats and I am sure people did but you can not depend on that, because the majority of the people with below average stats did not get in.

Use the next few months wisely and see how you can beef up your application. And apply early of course.

thank you everyone for all the advices!!!

regarding my gpa, i think i can retake three classes: bio which i got a B- in and my physics which i got both Cs in. but if i do that i wouldnt be able to graduate with a BS next year. i tried calling some schools to find out if having a BS would give me advantages but it seems like they really dont care. so, should i go back and retake those courses?

Having a BS does make your application stronger, however having something that stands out in your application is just as important. It would be easier to get more volunteer or leadership experience since you have time. Retaking the PCAT and applying early would most definately incarease your chances.

Cs in prereq courses are always a good idea to retake if you can. The main point is to retake the PCAT, that score is going to drag you down, it is not just below average, it is flat out bad....👎. Study and give yourself a second chance!😀
