so where you planning on applying or where are you in the process

Originally from Palestine...my parents immigrated here in early 70s.

Second time applying...TMDSAS and AMCAS have been processed...finishing secondaries for Texas schools....ready for all the others.

Damn, BaylorGuy, you're so ahead of the game. You make me feel behind...tear. I'm Persian, but I have some Syrian ancestry (I even have "Sham" in my last name). I like Arabic music and I have a lot of Arab friends. I even took Arabic 1 and 2.

Hmm, I can read Arabic...does that count? 🙂

syrian here, i kinda speak arabic mostly slang, i forgot how to read it sad.. i know, im gonna try and practice on it again soon after this damn MCAT is over. baylor guy did you get accepted the first time? I dont understand why your reapplying. You texans are soo soo lucky too so many schools to apply to, im only applying to the Oklahoma schools, everywhere else is so damn expensive or hard to get into.

For those of you that already had interviews, did your arabic heritage come up alot in interviews?

Try appyling to some TX schools, like TX Tech or TX A&M. They tend to look more favorably on OK residents when considering out of staters.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not going to translate it for you, but its a compliment chaey.

I can speak, write, and read arabic...i have a little trouble reading the arabic that is in the papers beacuse it doesn't have the accent marks and all...it takes me a little while, but i eventually get it.

My parents are from Qalqiliya, its a small town outside of Nablus....about an hour and a half northwest of Jerusalem. Speaking of Ramallah, my sister's husband (and his family) is from there.

Although I was born in Wales, I grew up in Egypt and moved to South Dakota with my family my freshman year in highschool. I still speak arabic with my family and I go back to Egypt in the summer when I can. I try to read the quran everynight to keep my reading sharp. We've got a couple of arabic threads in the middle east forum. Come join us if you like

I went to the Qalqiliya Zoo when I was in the west bank a few years ago!! My family is from Kifl Haris. It is near Nablus as well 🙂 Nice to meet some people from that area 🙂

I don't think there are any US schools that favor Arabs.

Out of 10 interviews, I think it only came up once (and only because the interviewer was curious why I have a Russian name but don't look Russian)

I am actually interested to know which areas in the US have decent-sized arabic populations. I've spent the last 7 years in South Dakota (don't ask me why) and me and my brothers are pretty much the only arabic college students in the state. I'm trying to apply to schools in areas that have arabic populations. Anyone have any advice ?

The day I interviewed with U Chicago Yasser Arafat died. I was unaware since I wasn’t really up to watching the news before my interview. My interviewer asked me how I felt, I was of course surprised. We talked about my family for awhile.

At each school I interviewed with at least one person asked me about my heritage. At SIU I had an interviewer who was Egyptian so I wasn’t too surprised. It really just depends on the people you get and how much you talk about your heritage in your essays.

Michican... Dearborn to be exact. Crazy number of Arabs there. Chicago area has a good population as well.

I am not an Arab, but I like Arabs. Selam to all of you 🙂

When playing soccer with some of my arab-homeys, I yell out Yalla yalla!!! (it means go! go! right?)

Habibi is a term of endearment. Listen to any arab song and you hear it over and over and over and....

and yes, Yalla means "come on" or "go" depending on the context. My dad used it on me a lot when i was little 😳

i hear yeshiva univ looks favorably on palestinians in particular

I am a native of Egypt. Born and raised there, up until high school. I'm an undergraduate at UMiami, doing biochem. I'm almost done filling out AMCAS. MCAT not until August, though. Can't wait to get it over with. For those of you who will take it in August, rabena ma3ako. And for those who already have, I hope that you will get in insha' Allah. Just don't forget to let us know. Peace!

Seriously...the Qalqiliya zoo is really cool. The only problem i found was going at the right time of the day so the animals are active. I usually visit in the summer so its hard to see them active during the middle of the summer days. Still though I had some good times there.

I personally think that there's no one like Amr Diab and Mohamed Mounir. I also love Abu Wadee3, George Wassouf.

Hakim and Alabina are good too.
