Hey guys,
As this is one of my favorite sections of the forums, I wanted to give some of you who I have come to know first crack at this. The great webmaster in the sky here at SDN has invited me to open up a new page similar to the diaries page, but even more personal. I am looking to have 5 or 6 full time permament authors who are in various medical-type professions or schools. These authors will need to commit to several posts per week but I would prefer nearly every day. The focus of this page is going to be different, and the type of people I am looking to include are different as well. I hope to offend no one with this, but I have a particular kind of person I am looking for in regard to this. This page is going to be more about the true "success stories" of medicine; about overcoming adversity, defeating the odds, and about relaying these stories so that others in the future who come from disadvantaged backgrounds will have a place to find hope. This page will ideally be more personal in that each author, in addition to their daily weblog journal, will have several permanent sections on various aspects of their past. Most of the people on this page will either be disadvantaged minorities, disadvantaged non-minorities, those with previous healthcare experience, non-traditionals etc... Now this does not mean that anyone will be excluded based on nationality or skin color, but since the number of authors will be limited in the beginning, it will be best to try and include those with the most impressive success stories. Bottom line- this is not going to be a place for the everday medical student to share their story. That is all too common and that is not the focus of my project. So if you think you have the characteristics I have described above, I would love to hear back from you. I think many of you on the USMLE forum may fit this mold and I look forward to hearing back from you. I am willing to entertain any criticisim, advice, or reflections.
And moderators, please do not delete the post as I am putting this in several locales on the forum to help recruit people from all areas of medicine. The webmaster knows about this project obviously and I do not think he will mind. Thanks.
Matt
