Any Chamorros out there?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hafa, Lai!

You must be my cousin.

Aren't we all cousins? 🙂

Chamorros? I have a feeling that this might be a dumb question.

Not at all. Chamorro (alt. spelling Chamoru) is what the indigenous people of the Marianas Islands call ourselves. There are
Chamorros from Guam, from Saipan, etc. The term "Guamanian" can describe anyone who considers Guam home, and since Guam is a melting pot it can denote any race/ethnicity. Hope that helps.

Though I'm not Chamoro (I'm Samoan), my roommate is a half-black, half-Chamorro med student from Guam at University of Michigan. You're not alone. Now, I need to find other Samoans. 🙂

Thanks, and Merry Christmas! I wish you good luck in your search🙂

Upon reading the thread title, I thought it was someone of Latino origin.. guess not lol 😀

heeey im part chamorro over here!
hafa adai!

Hafa Adai! You probably have a large Chamorro community close by in California, huh? I actually was born there (in CA), but my family moved back home when I was little. Now I live in NM.

Hafa adai! The only chamorro community I am aware of is my family. lol. We take up space(and a lot of it) in Ventura county and Long beach.

When are you all applying?

I'm applying this cycle but haven't heard anything yet.

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere, I'm just curious.

Ahhhh OMG... didnt know there were more of us out there! Hello, why didn't I just look in the URM threads right! I was so excited I really didn't read the rest of the thread to see if you are applying this cycle and what not. If you are good luck! I will be applying this cycle. MCAT this June (yup that is the soonest available date on the island) needless to say that doesn't exactly make me complete until around July when the scores come out. Anyhow good to know there are more out there...consider we make up < 1% of the medical community (stats from MSAR 2009-2009).

Lolasmommy, where are you planning on applying to? Have you heard anything about the medical school on Saipan? And I'm trying really, really hard not to ask you what's your family name. But of course, if you want to tell me...I might be your auntie, after all.

wow, i've never heard of chamorros before, thanks for enlightening me! And wish you all luck!!!!
