Hello, I'm currently considering going to Israel for medical school but I'm skeptical about ruining my chances for competitive residencies in the future.

I would like to know if there are any neurosurgeons out there that can tell me a little more about the process of becoming a neurosurgeon, such as:

1. Do you match into neurosurgery straight out of senior year or do you go into preliminary surgery first?
2. If into prelim, how do you get into neuro?
3. What matters most to get in? School or board scores?
4. How much does "who you know" matter?
5. Does an FMG have any chance getting in with good boards and class ranking?
6. Does it matter which school? Does Sackler have any prominence?

Im by no means an authority on the subject, but Sackler is a perfectly good med school, and the students there who take the USMLE have scores on par with american med schools.

You might also want to look at the joint NYU/Sackler program. I think its pre-clincial years at Tisch, and clincial years at Sackler. Degree comes from NYU I think.
