Did any of you guys get C's and still got accepted?

No, but a C+ in genetics and I still got in. My only 'C' in college 😡

I've had 2 C's..one in evolutionary biology and the other in genetics...didn't even retake them to replace the grade and still was accepted

Isn't it true that medical schools look at your organic chemistry grade? I heard, they use it to tell how well a student will do in medical school. Not sure if it is false...

I'm pretty sure that they use all of your grades + your MCAT + your EC's to determine if you would be a good candidate for medical school. Sure the schools look at the organic grade since it makes up your BCP, but they certainly do not base their decision primarily on the organic grade...many people would be f****d if that was a major part of the decision

as it was so .eloquently. put to me once by an admissions director, every doctor and interviewer you will meet had to go through the same thing, and many of them didnt come out perfectly with an A any more than we did. They understand what the class is about and that it is usually the first class that challenges students smart enough to be going to medical school. They dont weigh on it any more than any other class, if anything a C in there means less than a C in another class you really should do well in.

o ok thank you for clearing it up guys

C+ orgo 1, C- physics 1 (have to retake tho), D orgo 2 first time but got that to B- with retake, still got accepted to Nova and KCOM.

I had a C in biology 2, chem 2, physics 1, organic 2 and some other classes. I was accepted to DCOM and LECOM-bradenton with interviews from KCOM and Lecom-Erie that I declined.

I'm making good grades in med school now 😀

I had B's in both of my gen chems, C+ and C- in ochem 1 and 2 (but I retook ochem 2) and B's in countless other biology classes. I have been accepted into 1 school and declined an interview at another...

Couple of Cs early on nobody said a thing. They like to see you finish college strong. And for what its worth IMHO, a good grade in an upper level bio class will make up for a C in orgo 2.

lol that's awesome

I got a C- in both orgo 1 and 2.
I am applying this term to NSU-COM,VCOM,and PCOM-ga and was wondering if I still could have a shot. I know that NSU would require a retake but how about the others. I am a pretty good candidate, 3.49 cumm GPA, 3.25 sci GPA, and 27T MCAT. Good ECs (work full time ER with DOs, lots of research, good LORs, etc). What do you think guys given the C- and prety much no time to retake (possibly orgo 1 this spring maybe)?

I have a 26N and ~3.5 GPA SCI/Overall. I got a C in Orgo 1 (with a B in Orgo 2.) I got in to NSU (and others) this year. I think they look at the overall picture. Write a compelling personal statement! Good luck!

NSU will not hold a few C's against you. They let my dumb a** in, and have yet to kick me out...
😉

What about a C- ...does that make a difference at most schools? so long as the other grades are good

I've got a few. Mostly early on. I got a C+ in organic II this summer, but it was a rough summer involving taking care of my dying gma and what not. I'm cruising for a C in biochem right now. I'm accepted somewhere, but my top choice wants to see my grades to get off the waitlist..so, not looking too good.

My dad had a D in his first calc class and didn't do too hot his freshman year. He wound up being AOA in medical school, so it worked out well for him.

I feel a little better after reading this thread....

A C- won't cut it for any required class (pre reqs) for most schools. Check the schools you're interested in, but you'll need to retake it.

Do you know where the easiest place to find this info is? I know NSU requires a C or better in pre-reqs but am having a hard time finding anything for VCOM and PCOM-Ga. I spoke to two admissions reps at PCOM main campus and one said there was a C requirement and the lady I spoke to later about another questions said that there was no requirement so long as your GPA and others stats were competitive.

Let's see...

C+ in Expository Writing (BS rutgers class)
C in calc I (professor sounded like Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle)
C in Inorganic Chem I
C in Inorganic Chem II (professor was demoted to a TA after 2/3rd of our class failed)
C in physics I (i screwed up)
C in Advanced development Bio (class with 90% grad stuents and i was talking 4 other 400 level classes at the same time)

So far a few interviews and an acceptance at LECOM - Erie.

It's usually the school's site, but I don't see it for PCOM-GA--I just checked. If you can't get a straight answer, ask for the Dean of Admissions' email. He/She will know. But for most--if not all--schools, you'll have to have a flat C or better for all pre reqs. The pre reqs can be found in the CIB, as well as the schools' sites, usually.

I got C's in both organic I and II, plus a WF (withdrawn failing) in analytical chemistry. I was accepted at every school I interviewed at (5 in total) and I even turned down several interviews.

So keep your head up! You can do it!

Oh man, I have a few C's....Including one in Art History!😱
I have a bunch of acceptances and was never even asked about my grades. The one C- I got I retook to get an A; like others have said, any C- you may want to think about re-taking if it's possible..
Good luck and keep your chin up! contrary to all the pre-med rumors, a few C's on your transcript won't keep you out of med school.

Art History SUCKED! I would not recommend anyone to take that class. Interesting and the paintings were awesome, but man, the class was painful.

One of my favorite classes in undergrad. Took it senior year, when I could see the light at the end of the tunnel and started to see life beyond the walls of the classroom. Being able to speak intelligently about art is impressive, and art gallery openings can be a lot of fun! 👍

For each exam, we had to memorize information for 70 paintings: name, author, origin, year, style. I did end up getting a B-, and I wasn't very happy.

That sounds disgusting. Our class was more about styles and periods. Tests were mostly short answer, testing big concepts. Then you'd need to cite some works to support your thoughts.

I got a C in gen chem I...I have 2 interviews so far. I don't think it's going to hold me back from being accepted. I did retake it though.

D in quantum physics, D in discrete math, C in Analytical chemistry, C in cell bio, C in electricity and magnetism and something else I can;t even remember...they were mostly earlier in college, otherwise I would have been in trouble. If you can recover from a C with a good grade in the class following it, it looks less fishy. DONT retake a C unless required, if you do not make a an A or B+ the second time around then it really does look bad.

2 C's in college, 3 C+'s. All in the same year! It was a good year for me, let me tell you.

And I was a 4.0 student at a very competitive, top-tier high school. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!

A C+ in an SMP core course. Just found this out after taking my final today.

No acceptances yet, but luckily I've attended some interviews so we'll see how this plays out.

I guess I'm pretty screwed if I want to re-apply next cycle??

😕

I got a C in Orgo 2, among others...I even got a C in Aerobics! When I walked into one of my interviews, one of the interviewers just started laughing. For a second I thought I forgot to wear pants or something. Then he tells me that he was expecting some fat dude to walk thru the door because of my C in aerobics lol

Freshman year: C+ in Chem I, withdraw Chem II
Sophomore year: B+ in Chem I, C+ in Chem II
Junior year: B+ in O. Chem I, C+ in O. Chem II
A's in all labs.

So, I have about as bad of a trend as you can find with chemistry... I got accepted to ATSU-KCOM and ATSU-SOMA, and am awaiting decisions from AZCOM and CCOM.

As if I'm not only reaffirming what everyone else has already said, definitely doable 👍

is 2.5 a C? If so, then yeah - Biochem 2, Physio 2, Epidemiology <--This was all in 1 bad semester which ruined my GPA. I also got a 2.0 frosh year in a psych because I was out of comission for weeks due to meningitis and the prof made me take an exam days after coming back to school..
But hey, thats all in the past, just retake the classes you have to, and make sure you kill it this time. I retook Biochem and Physio as part of a master's program and did much better.

I think C = 2.0 everywhere
2.5 = somewhere between B- and C+

Yea I think it depends on the school too.... 2.5= C+...B-=2.75 (my school calculates it as 2.67)

Typically, C = 2.0, C+ = 2.3, B- = 2.7, B = 3.0.

That's pretty standard for a lot of schools.

i was also wondering if gettin a C will affect my chances for admission..heres wat ive gotten so far.

introchem C-(firt time takin chem)
gen chem 1 B
gen chem 2 C (retook after getting a C before,)
organic 1 B
organic 2 A
biochem B
advanced organic chemistry B
analytical chemistry B

where do i stand????..should i retake the intro to chem and gen chem 2?

somali, it's hard to give any sort of idea where you stand without your MCAT and GPA.

Did you get a C in gen chem the first time, and then retook it and still got a C?

Also, what school are you attending?

Dan

i think this is the single most helpful thread ive seen on sdn ever. had to register just bc of it.. normally i just read posts.. never needed to post myself but this one.. this is solid gold. to all of you who have gotten in w/ a c here or there... man hope is a wonderful thing.

Hope is that! Glad you decided to register. Participating here was EXTREMELY helpful to me and my nerves when I was applying and now look at me. I are gonna be a doctor.

A "C" I dont know why but I feel like lately I have a hard time believing any of my classmates get grades below me and Im rockin the 3.5 Science GPA right now.

I guess it is also influenced a lot by the type of prof, TA, and lifestlye you live.

Does anyone think it's bad to Fail Orgo - take a W instead, and retake it at a community college!?

Cause...that's what I'm doing but everyone in Pre-Allo says it's bad...
