That is one thing that I see sorely missing at osteopathic schools - PhD/DO degrees (in a biomedical field). Yes, PCOM has a PhD in Public Health, which is great if you want to do policy - but - pure research positions are lacking. I wonder if that is the trend of osteopathic schools to be more clinical (people) based?
Anyway, all the the MD/PhD's I've talked with over the years say pretty much the same thing. You cannot serve both masters. After trying to do both, clinic and research, usually they settle for one or the other. Think about it... both are very demanding interests - very hard to balance both.
Ironic, I HATED lab work as an undergrad. Now, through my Masters work... I like bench time. Then again, I'm always wondering "What if..."
