Hi !! I am a dentist from India and have been admitted for the mph course for this fall. Any Dentist who has finished this course pls do share his/her insights about various openings in the field.
Any dentists starting the course this fall pls share what concentration you plan to take and why ? Thank you and God bless! 👍

I'm not a dentist, but will be going to dental school this fall. I completed an MPH in molecular epidemiology before I applied to dental school because I am interested in disease determinants. After dental school, I plan on staying on with clinical/epidemiology research, investigating the bacterial community determinants of oral diseases (my primary focus has been perio)

Ideally 60% of my time will be spent in research, 40% of my time in clinic. As of now, I don't have any plans to go into private practice and would rather stay with a university.

I think you need to ask yourself what doors do you want your MPH to open for you. I suppose, really, the first question you need to answer is what will a degree in public health add to your life. If you have a good answer to that, then figure out what job do you want to have when you finish your degree and that should dictate what discipline within public health you should pursue.

I do know some dentists who earned their MPH and they all studied epidemiology. Perhaps I am biased, but I think epidemiology is the most versatile concentration in public health and sort of acts a bridge between the different concentrations.
